Prostitution is alive and well in Vallarta, what I mean buy that is, it is open and accepted here. Vallarta has a number of strip joints, where more than dancing takes place for the right amount of pesos. The girls make very good money, its the RED SUN, or RED ZONE that seems to offend more. Most cities in Mexico have them, they are located just outside city limits. Catina's where sex is taken to a new limit. Where, both sexes are available for any number of pleasures. Often difficult to tell the gender, your wildness fantasies are available for a shot of tequila and a few hundred pesos. Vallarta's red zone is just off the beaten track, but inside city limits. Lets not forget the local whore houses, where the tired, and aged dancers now work. Are they hidden, yes and no, you could easily buy a condo beside a very active little house. New to Vallarta, people are generally shocked, the rest of us seem to just accept it. If anyone does comment, the comment is always. "Its Mexico" said with a shrug of the shoulder.
Child prostitution is a problem in Mexico, but thankfully not a problem in Vallarta, but does exist more in the back hills. There are people working on that and acting as child advocates.
Corruption, please this country would fall apart with out it. How the hell could anyone get anything done without it. That statement should upset a few. Just the same "it is what it is". Another comment used here a lot. Stopped by the cops for a traffic violation, 200 pesos takes care of the problem. This system works for all, if I accept the ticket I must take the morning off work to drive to the limits of town, stand in line for 1 hour, pay , take the receipt and stand in another line for another hour and sometimes longer. Sure the ticket is only 60 pesos but I spent the other 140 in my time standing around only to support who. Pay the cop, he has 200 extra pesos to put food on the table. Works, what is the problem.
This is just a small example of the corruption, need permits to build or open a business, how soon do you want that permit. PAY, its that simple. You get to open the doors sooner, you make money sooner and someone has extra beans and rice on the table. Works
What is sad is when someone hurts, another because they can, because is amuses them, often getting away with it for a few pesos. Now and then someone will go to the police, then the offending person will spent a night or two in jail, pay the judge off, get out and high tail his butt out Vallarta only to turn up in another tourist town. Happens way to often, the judge is eating more than rice and beans on his ill gained 30,000 US.
The law in Mexico, is not respected, followed to some degree but not respected. There are couples wanting to adopt, something that is very hard to do here, so for the right about of money, to the girl and her family, and of course to the doctor, birth papers can be signed as the adoptive mother giving birth, away you go with your new baby in tow. Am I against this, well two family's are served in this agreement. It is what it is
Have I paid the cop, yes more than once and will do it again, would I arrange an adoption, not at this age but if I wanted a child, you bet, after all.... ITS MEXICO

I decided to get out of the rat race, find some more peaceful way to live my life. For the pass 10 years I have called Puerto Vallarta home. Bussiness lunches are often tacos in the street or a margarita... View profile
