Sex - Superstitions & Rituals

Whilst researching my book over a 4 year period, Aromatherapy & Herbalism - The complete home user's guide, I came across many and varied superstitions during this period. So many, in fact, I could only dedicate the last chapter of my book to publish some of the more bizzare superstitions. However, here is one I would like to share with you.

Sex has always been regarded as part of a magical or supernatural activity with the act of sexual union acquiring a mythology of its own over the eras. In some early societies it was thought that the world itself had been created through sexual activity between the Gods. For instance, in primitive times the phallus was worshipped in many cultures as a symbol of life and copies were made as charms against evil.

The orgasm, in ancient times, was viewed as a momentof mystical communication with the world beyond. Sex became a central ritual of many religious practices with witches attending covens naked and frequently indulging in sexual intercourse. Sex has been used as a central point for many religious beliefs down through the eras.

Aphrodisiacs have used to promote sexual desire (see Aphrodisiac in Aromatherapy & Herbalism) and superstition is full with recommendations designed to enhance fertility. Here are a few others. Have you heard of them before?

* Blondes and Redheads are more sexually curious than brunettes

* If a woman stands up during sex can not get pregnant

* Men from Mediterranean countries are thought to have the best sex drive

* Hairy men are reputed to have more sexual drive than men without hair

* Women with wide pouting mouths are supposed to have fertile sexual organs

* Men with large hands and feet are suposed to have large sexual organs

* Sex with a woman who is having her period will resut in the man going bald

Hope you enjoyed!

It has been proven that hands, feet and phallus genetically grow in tandem with each other during the same trimester.

Haha, interesting. I'm glad that we don't still believe that a woman can't get pregnant if she stands up during sex!
