Sexually Transmitted Diseases in the Military
Military Sexually Transmitted Disease Statistics Continue to Rise!
Thought is that soldiers put their selves at higher risk. Mostly during the long spans of deployment. It is very common for the young aged soldiers to be sexually active during this time. However both single and even married soldiers all put their selves out there for this risk. As much as I hate to say it, it is the truth. A marriage is a precious relationship but yet some not all, will chance their health and relationship just to have sexual intimacy with another person. The pressure and stress of being in a war zone is difficult to manage. And the feelings of loneliness in that environment drives soldiers more to sex as it helps relieve these feelings.
In 2006 the statistics show that is was below 3%, now that was only completed on 1,700 active duty soldiers in Iraq. We all know that the military consists of so many more soldiers that just those 1,700. Just imagine what the statistics could be. Thru the years it shows that the STD rate thru the military has dramatically increased over the years. The actual statistics for the military seem to have been swept under the rug so that it remains secret. However I have supplied links for factual evidence of this increase thru out the military. I wish that I could say that these links are being provided for your reading pleasure, however it is absolutely horrifying.
As a current deployed soldier, I see a lot of this foolishness going on. They know it is not safe nor is it right. The urge though empowers them to continue taking the risks of their health and some of their relationships. The saddest part is that their significant others aren't even aware of the affairs that their soldier has had while they were gone. The return home safely is the main concern. The trust to remain loyal is expected but not always followed thru with.
Now don't get it all wrong. It is not just the soldiers! Many significant others of soldiers also are sexually active while their soldier is deployed. This also puts both parties at risk for STD's. Being realistic, there is only so much that can be done to prevent getting STD's. All preventive measures have their errors. The safest is to use absentness, refrain from sexual activities. The sexual urge is a natural response in the human body and is a difficult one in fighting off. Soldiers are educated on STD's and are well aware of the risks. We are informed that the military has the highest rate of STD's but yet many do not head the warning.
