Choose your colors
Shabby Chic is mainly about pastel colors and white. I love pastel colors. Figure out what color you want to use for the walls. My absolute favorite color is pink, and if I lived alone, that would probably be my choice. But, I have a husband and son, so I have to stick with something more gender neutral. A plain, white wall is fine, as long as you accessorize the room beautifully. A soft green, blue or yellow would be perfect as well.
Furniture
Shabby Chic offers various styles of white slip covered sofas. This can be a great start. Or you can use a sofa that you already have that is floral designed or a soft color. Either would work well. A coffee table or ottoman is a usual staple for living rooms. These can be purchased on the shabby chic website or at a local Shabby Chic store. Even craftier is to find an antique coffee table, and spray paint it white, or a color that would go well with the style of your living room. A glass vase of fresh flowers is an elegant display for your coffee table, along with beautiful hardcover books or magazines.
Choose comfortable and aesthetically pleasing chairs for your living room. Just because a chair is beautiful, does not mean that it is meant for sitting, at least, not for long. Shabby Chic offers leather chairs, but you can easily use two nice, plush, comfy chairs for your room. You can even reupholster the fabric for the chairs, if they are older chairs that aren't quite so beautiful anymore. A floral design would be beautiful or a solid white or pastel. Arm chairs or recliners are very comfortable chairs, that can be made beautiful by choosing beautiful fabrics to reupholster it with.
Lighting
The most beautiful lighting fixture in a living room is a chandelier, in my opinion. It helps to set the tone for the room. You can purchase a Shabby Chic chandelier, or one from any home décor store that you think is breathtaking. Also, beautiful lamps that could sit atop end tables add a beautiful touch.
If you have hardwood floors, a lovely rug adds a warm touch to your Shabby Chic living room. Shabby Chic offers pink and red rose patterned cotton rugs that are very cute. They also offer elegant sheepskin rugs.
You can purchase many of the aforementioned items straight from shabby chic.com or go to one of their stores. If that's not an option, you can always find treasures at antique stores, and fix them up if they are not in great condition. Spray painting, reupholstering, and finding new uses for living room treasures can surely make your Shabby Chic living room what you dreamed.
