Shades of Childhood Lost and a Life Emboldened

Patricia Elane
In a young girl's darkened room
Walls slathered with dreams, fears, hopes unrealized
Why this awkward choice?

There are shades of purple, shades like skin.
Each holding special promise, perhaps
Of a life yet started, yet fulfilled, yet lived

Color defined me.
Rich, voluptuous, bold, and fearless
Shades that spoke

Of the royalty that I hoped to be
If only within
That darkened room.
