"I cannot begin to explain the miserable feeling I brought upon myself, when I betrayed the trust of all of you, wrote the student in a letter sent to the parents of Shaker Heights High School students.
"I apologize for offending anyone and everyone. It is unfortunate that I did not recognize the big responsibility and honor given to me when asked to design the cover of the Shaker Heights yearbook. I offer my sincere apologies."
Shaker Heights High School has pulled the yearbook and will now distribute an altered version to its students.
The Sickles High School yearbook also contained an X-rated feature of its own - although unlike the Shaker Heights yearbook - it wasn't exactly hidden. A group photo taken of the school's pottery club shows one of its members, a 16-year-old female student, sitting in the front row wearing a green dress. Only she's not wearing any underwear. Unfortunately, the girls decided to go commando that day.
The girl was so traumatized by the photo that she was unable to attend school for the remainder of the year.
One can safely assume that the 16-year-old Sickles High School student will now think twice before leaving the house without wearing underwear. Especially since an unedited version of the above-mentioned X-rated photo allegedly found its way onto the Internet.
As for the artistically gifted but manners-challenged Shaker Heights High School student, well, the student's apology seems to have been very much accepted. At the Shaker Heights High School graduation ceremony last Thursday, the student received a round of thunderous applause from fellow students.
And that does not come as much of a surprise to this writer. High school pranks are something of a rite of passage, and they have always taken place and always will. Mind you, they're not always as scandalous as what happened with the Shaker Heights yearbook, but, then again, some have been even more offensive.
