Shakespearean Sonnet: Childhood

Rebecca Bardelli

To be a child, to dream, to wish on stars,
A Santa Clause, an Easter Bunny real,
so captivated putting toads in jars,
the touch of slime and silly putty feel.

A fairy bringing money for a tooth,
to run so swift, to chase a ladybug,
the beauty held in watching glee of youth,
to hold a hand so small, to kiss and hug.

To have the universe in front of thee,
to view a planet, watch cartoons; a sight,
to have a liveliness, a spirit free,
to blow a bubble high and fly a kite .

A youthful mind to run so free and wild,
to play with marbles, jacks, and chalk; a child.
