The Shaken Baby Syndrome is very dangerous as they may lead to fractures or injuries to the soft tissues and retinal haemorrhage. It can even lead to physical disabilities, blindness and even death of the newborn.
Why is it that babes should not be shaken violently? The infant's neck is week to support its head. When the babe is shaken hard, the head moves very vigorously, which can cause damage. The muscles are week and cannot withstand the shaking.
