Shakira Makes World Cup and YouTube History with Hit "Waka Waka"
"Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" Song and Dance Are Pop Culture Phenom
She made the world dance with her release "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)," now the best-selling World Cup song in history. The tune has sold a commanding 2 million copies. (See video here).
Not only is the song a global success, but the popular tune has an accompanying dance that is broadcast on the web, becoming part of pop culture. 170 million fans have gone onto YouTube to view the video.
It is the fourth most watched video of all time. The sexy songstress gets the No. 3 position for the most watched music video on You Tube. Now, she's a virtual video star.
Using YouTube to spread her message of education, Shakira invited the global community to "dance for 1Goal." The fans responded, posting over 400 million views worldwide for universal education awareness. Check out Shakira's video here.
The singer has been collaborating with Dizee Rascal of the U.K. and Dominican hip hop artist El Cata. Together, the three recorded a new single, "Loca," in both English and Spanish. Dizee handles the English, El Cata does the Spanish.
Laying down the tracks in the D.R. (Dominican Republic), the single is set to be released soon. You will hear a meringue, techno, and dance back beat mixture.
The video for the single "Loca" was filmed in Barcelona, on the streets in order to capture the essence of everyday life. Barcelona happens to be one of Shakira's favorite cities and the location of her second home.
"Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)" will be available on the sultry singer's soon-to-be released album "Sale el Sol/The Sun Comes Out" October 19.
