Marbled Shamrocks
Cut a piece of white paper to fit inside of a shoe box. Add several drops of green paint in different shades to the paper. Put a couple of marbles into the box and return place the lid on the box. Show the child how to rock the box back and forth, rolling the marbles inside. When they open the box, the paper inside should me a mostly green swirly pattern. After the paper dries, cut out a shamrock shape from their paper and mount it on green or gold cardstock.
Shamrock Sponge Prints
Cut out sponges into heart shapes and let the children dip the sponges into green paint and make shamrocks by printing the hearts into sets of three and four. Sprinkle the shamrock with a pinch of gold glitter and add a stem with a stripe of green paint. Use the shamrock prints to make St. Patrick's Day cards, placemats, and more.
Shamrock Head Bands
Cut a strip of paper to fit around your child's head. Let him or her decorate the paper with shamrock stamps, stickers, and glue and gold glitter. Staple the strip into a circle and let you child wear his or her shamrock crown all day.
Shamrock Cookie Art
Use a shamrock shaped cookie cutter to cut out shamrock shapes from sugar cookie dough and bake according to the recipe's directions. Meanwhile mix up several shades of green icing. Let your child ice the cookies. Provide green sprinkles, St. Patrick's day candies, such as M&Ms, and St. Patrick's Day sprinkles to decorate.
Shamrock Collage
Give each child a piece of white paper with a shamrock outline printed on it. Set out several sheets of green construction paper, green tissue paper, magazine pages with green grass or foliage, green confetti and green ribbon. Let the children cut or tear the paper into scraps and cut the ribbon into small pieces. They can then use the scraps to glue inside of their shamrocks to create a colorful, textured collage.
Shamrock Pin
Find small wood cutouts in the shape of a shamrock at a craft store. Give each child a shamrock to decorate with paint, glitter, and stickers. Attach a safety pin to the back to create their own St. Patrick's day pin.
