Vince keeps up with the best hawkers in his ShamWow commercial for the super absorbent, reusable clothes that are made by Germans so you know they have to be good!
We bought ShamWow at the local CVS about a year ago and put ShamWows to the test around the house. Here is the verdict on the claims made by Vince and the ShamWow website:
"Easily removes cola, wine and pet stains."
Basically yes. When you put a ShamWow on top of a newly spilled wet spot it soaks up the liquid up much better than a paper towels, rags or sponges. You can see the color move from the carpet onto the ShamWow and when you ring is out and reapply it doesn't go back onto the rug. It is a good idea to do a little spot cleaning after the fact even its just with a little plain water and we always apply Urine Be Gone after pet messes.
"Doesn't drip, doesn't make a mess."
Compared to a towel the ShamWow doesn't drip. That is not to say that no drop of liquid ever drips from a ShamWow. When you twist or squeeze the ShamWow it releases the liquid which means if it is fully saturated and you fold it in half a few drops are going to fall.
"Washes, dries, and polishes any surface."
Basically yes especially drying.. We have used ShamWow on floors, walls, counters, windows, cars, sinks, wet dogs, teddy bears, dishes and silver. I prefer a sponge when I'm washing dishes and newspaper for my windows and mirrors but the ShamWow did fine. Wrap a large ShamWow around the end of a broom or sponge mop and it does a great job mopping floors.
"Won't scratch any surface."
The only thing I'm willing to say on this claim is that it has not scratched any of my surfaces.
"Machine washable and bleachable"
We wash ours regularly and it does change the way the ShamWow feels but it doesn't seem to make it noticeably less absorbent.
The gold star ShamWow uses are cleaning up floods and drying off small wet dogs.
We had two bathrooms flood at once when the upstairs toilet wouldn't stop running and the water went through the ventilation system into and flooded the downstairs bathroom as well. Once we got the water stopped we split up to clean up the watery mess and using the ShamWow I got the upstairs bathroom dry and shiny before the downstairs what even half way finished. The super absorbent ShamWows were worth the $20 they coast in those 30 minutes!
