The match between Mosley and Margarito happened at the Staples Center in front of 21,000 people. In the 9th round, Mosley gave Margarito a blow that sent him reeling. So the referee had to stop the fight after 45 seconds into round 9. Raul Caiz was the referee for the bout. Mosley says that he went to the fight thinking that his speed could be the deciding factor, as he thought his hand speed was too much for Margarito. Mosley came into the fight 7 years older than his opponent. He was the underdog. He showed the entire world in this fight that he is still capable of beating the best.
In 2000 Mosley had a victory over De La Hoya at the Staples Center, and has now defeated Margarito in the same arena. Mosley was very happy that he was able to it again in the same place. He says it was a great time for him. He's always ready for the knockout fights.
It was absolutely marvelous to see Margarito knocked down by Mosley in the eighth round with some severe blows to the head. Margarito just couldn't balance himself and never gathered himself after the first knock down. Mosley has the far more quicker hands when it came to this boxing match. Margarito, 30 years old, was aggressing Mosley but he always got caught moving forward in the head as well as the body. Mosley considers Margarito as a good welterweight. He thought that it was a good ploy to give body shots along with head blows. That was a classic match where pretty much all of the damage was done to Margarito.
Mosley said that people were underestimating his strength. He also adds that he is capable of beating big guys and knocking them out. People do not understand this. Mostly has great strength. The game plan of Margarito was to get a punch and then give one. He has used this plan several times before, but this time it didn't work out. He was facing "Sugar" Shane Mosley who is better than his previous opponents. Mosley was way quicker than Margarito. Mosley was dominating all throughout the match. Margarito's jab was penetrated most of the time by Mosley. The last three rounds were really furious. Mosley was landing punches like never before. He was improvising a lot. He grabbed every opportunity that he had. Mosley says that Margarito was always looking for his left-hand because he was so successful with it. He added that he is successful with both the hands.
Mosley is ready to take on Cotto in a rematch as his next big fight. He said he only wants to fight, big fights.
