Shane Mosley Vs. Floyd Mayweather Preview

Mayweather Vs. Mosley is Toughest (Recent) Fight in Mayweather's Career

Jake Emen
Floyd Mayweather vs. Shane Mosley is a battle of two of the top three men in boxing's welterweight division rankings. It also features two men who have missed fighting each other at several occasions over their prominent careers - both men have turned down the fight in the past - in a highly intriguing match-up that is a suitable replacement to Pacquiao vs. Mayweather.

With the negotiations failed, restarted and failed again ad nauseam, the two camps finally went their separate ways. Pacquiao is set to face Joshua Clottey on March 13 and now the Mayweather vs. Mosley clash is set to go for May 1. Mosley had his schedule cleared when his bout with Haitian welterweight Andre Berto got nixed following the recent, tragic disaster that devastated the island nation.

Mayweather vs. Mosley Preview
Mayweather enters the bout with a sparkling 40 (25) - 0 record but yet also has some huge gaps on his resume. He's the guy applying for the CEO job with a Harvard degree but a five year span following graduation during which his most noteworthy gig was two months folding shirts at The Gap.

He will of course be the favorite against Mosley, however Sugar Shane brings several elements into the ring that will make the evening far from the pleasure-cruise that his 12 rounds against Juan Manuel Marquez were.

Mosley is big and strong, but more importantly is used to fighting bigger men as well. Mosley is fast, although not quite the dazzling speedster he was years ago. Mosley has power, most recently applying a dose of boxing come-uppance to Antonio Margarito following his illegal hand wrapping faux pas. Additionally, Mosley has an iron chin, and should not be easily deterred by Mayweather's shots.

Mayweather vs. Mosley Prediction
All of that sounds great for Shane Mosley, and he will enter the ring on May 1 with his confidence coasting at levels it hasn't seen since around June of 2000 (read: following his defeat of Oscar De La Hoya). Of course, by the time of the fight that will have been a full decade prior, and Mosley, at 38 years old, will be coming off a 16 month layoff.

At the end of the day, he'll be another name on the resume of Mr. Mayweather, helping to patch over that mysterious absence of recent achievement for such a noteworthy practitioner of the sport.

I vividly remember Miguel Cotto timing Mosley's aggression perfectly with his jab while avoiding trouble circling the ring on his bicycle until he tired in the final third of their November 2007 bout. Mayweather offers faster hands, superior timing, vastly superior defensive skill and ring generalship and unending cardio stamina that will never allow Mosley to get back in the fight after an early round surge.

Mayweather adds another Unanimous Decision to his record, and one-ups Manny Pacquiao in the process, adding more fuel to that fire once again. For all of the latest boxing news and coverage, you can visit http://ProBoxing-Fans.com.

The Mayweather vs Mosley fight is expected to get over 3 million PPV sales and more than the Pacquiao vs

Clottey fight. Mayweather the more defensive fighter is the People's Choice but let's not take for

    granted the skills of Mosley.

Mosley has had big fights against dela Hoya, Margarito, Vargas and a lot more heavy punchers.

Mayweather on the other hand who has the reputation of choosing Light Punchers has also great defense.

But defense doesn't make you win in boxing.

I predict a Unanimous Decision win for Mosley on May 1, 2010.
