Shaniya Davis Story - What It Has Done To Us

Shaquille O'Neal secretly paid for little Shaniya's funeral. He wanted her funeral to be "as beautiful as she was". The story touched Shaq, as it did our nation. This story has gone past touching the nation; people from across the world are still mourning the death of Shaniya Davis.

I did an article on Shaniya Davis and asked for comments from readers. I wanted to hear other's thoughts, maybe because I too cannot get Shaniya's tragic story out of my mind and wanted to know how others were dealing with this. The overwhelming responses from people are still coming in. Washington, California, Michigan, Connecticut, and every other state have been heard from.

One of the biggest surprises out of all the response was from a woman sending a Dutch Condolence registry site from the Netherlands. Her name is Lisa. She stresses that Shaniya's story has brought many to the conclusion that we need to look after each other's children.

As of this morning, there are 148 people who have said a few words for this little 5 year old angel who was murder half way around the world from these wonderful people. I have added a link to it here: A Dutch Condolence Registry for Shaniya Davis. I do not read the language, but the shear numbers of quotes that are listed here speaks volumes to me. Here is the comment I received from Lisa.

A Dutch condolence register for Shaniya

"http://www.condoleanceregister.com/Shaniya-Davis.html I'm Lisa and I live in Europe, in the Netherlands. Ever since little Shaniya has been reported missing I've been following this story and I was shocked when they found her. Even though I did not know this little girl or her family, I cried for them. I don't have children myself, but I do have several nieces and nephews, so I can relate to the feeling of having to miss one of them. It would break my heart. I was also "present" at the funeral by Internet; that was truly a beautiful ceremony. I know that Shaniya is with our Lord now; no one can harm her anymore. She touched my heart and the hearts of so many people around the world. Maybe finally we've come to understand that a whole lot of children are in danger at the present and we need to look after each others children more. They are our future and should be protected more than ever! Look after your dad and family, and may you rest in peace, Little Miss Shaniya (L) "

The Shaniya Davis Story has touched so many hearts and has served as a call for others to change the way they view things. Taking a saying from Hilary Clinton - "It takes a village to raise a child", is something we need to practice.

Shaquille O'Neal did something for Shaniya because the story touched his heart. In the memory of Shaniya, let us watch out for our children. Keep them safe and away from harm. Think of all possible consequences and make sure they are not being placed somewhere where they can be hurt. Speak up when you see things, if a child is in harms way, make it your business and do everything you can to stop it.

This makes me sick to my stomach, I have a three year old daughter. When I think of little Shaniya I hold her and just cry. I ask myself why did GOD put people on this earth like that!!!

It's so sad what has happened, but it's so neat to see all types of people touched and motivated. Great reporting!
