EA Partners will work with Klei Entertainment to bring "Shank" to gamers this summer, and signed another deal with Hothead Games to help deliver "DeathSpank."
"Shank" features a style of art inspired by graphic novels and Golden Age comics. It will be a 2D side-scrolling action game that also includes a more mature storyline. The game was a finalist for the "Excellence in Visual Arts" award at this year's Independent Games Festival and will be feature soon during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
The story for "Shank" unfolds in a stylized, modern-Western setting and tells a tale of betrayal through a cinematic lens.
"The team at Klei Entertainment is among the best in the world at developing fun and engaging titles for digital distribution platforms, and 'Shank' is an amazing experience," said Jamil Moledina, outreach director of business development at EA Partners. The game will also be available for PCs.
"DeathSpank" comes with a high-profile name in the world of video gaming attached to it. The game was developed under the watchful eye of Ron Gilbert who created "The Secret of Monkey Island." "DeathSpank" combines Gilbert's wit inside a role playing adventure.
The game's hero, "DeathSpank," is known as the Dispenser of Justice, Vanquisher of Evil and the Hero to the Downtrodden, according to the game's Web site. The storyline is unveiled through in-game conversations, puzzle solving and proper equipping of the character as "DeathSpank" searches out an item known as "The Artifact." As he vanquishes evil, "DeathSpank" will level up, gain loot and acquire new abilities. The game can be played in short bursts of action or the entire quest will take about 15 hours or more of gaming. There are side quests that games can choose to take on or not. The game's Web site also boasts that "DeathSpank" has the most eccentric cast seen in a video game.
"DeathSpank" is an engrossingly fun and hysterically funny experience, and we are all excited to have the opportunity to help introduce "DeathSpank" to gamers across the world," EAP's Moledina said.
EA Partners is a division of Electronic Arts.
