Shaq Signs a Two-Year $3 Million Deal with the Celtics

Shaquille O'Neal just signed a 2-year contract with the Boston Celtics. It is reported that the deal is worth only $3 million, which is much less than Shaq is used to getting paid but considering his age and his injury history the past few years, at this point in his career that might be all he is worth.

Will he help the Celtics? It is possible. Both parties make out however. Shaq has a chance to finish his career with a storied franchise in the Boston Celtics (something he is not unfamiliar with from his days with the Celts biggest rival the LA Lakers). The Celtics in return get a big man to help out with Kendrick Perkins out for most of the upcoming season without spending a fortune.

Shaquille O'Neal spent last season in Cleveland where he had a forgettable season at best for the times he actually played the game. Shaq is no stranger to playing with great players, from Kobe to LeBron and D Wade. Now he will be on a team currently with Pierce, KG and Ray Allen. The problem might be that Shaq is no longer at their level. His demeanor and attitude must stay positive and he must know his role.

The Celtics have quite a few experienced veterans on the team but of course that means most are getting older. Luckily, they also have the youth of players like Rajon Rondo.

Only time will tell how well the relationship will work out. Either way it is clear that there is nothing to lose on either side but everything to gain. One thing is for sure it should make for an interesting season in the east with the Miami Heat stacked with young stars and the Celtics a nice mix of older veterans and young players.
