Twitter is loaded with December wishes. The popularity of the posts should only continue to grow throughout the holiday season. December's wish list enthralled me as I scanned the list of wishes that were posted. Some wishes were altruistic reflections of the holiday season. Other posts were materialistic reflections of the materialism of the Christmas season. The posts that moved me most were those that lay open heart and intimate desires of the Twitter poster.
Altruistic wishes on Twitter Decemberwish
Good hearted people shine when they post a December wish on Twitter. Among the best posts on December 1, 2009, World Aids Day, was the wish that everyone would join forces to fight and beat Aids.
Animal rights activists are also active on Twitter Decemberwish. I found hopes to end animal cruelty and a wish to save the pandas.
While some December wishes seem shallow or selfish these wishes remind us what the holiday season is all about. One poster commented that while he was tempted to be selfish, he really wants to help someone this holiday season. His sentiment was echoed by others who desired to help the needy. That moves me and encourages me to do the same.
Material desires on Decemberwish
Some of the posts on Twitter's December wish list read like Santa's Christmas list: PS3, money to fall out of the sky, a Lamborghini, and Mac computers.
I feel for those who posted a December wish for a job. There would likely be more wishes for jobs, but they can't afford Internet access. I want to be sensitive to those who are suffering financially during the holiday season and beyond.
Relationships also among Twitter December Wish List
I'm not sure that "relationships" is the appropriate place to list wishes about the Jonas Brothers, but someone wants them to come to Canada, another to Pittsburgh, while another poster wants the Jonas Brothers to move to New Hampshire. There were a few other requests for celebrity encounters, but there are people everywhere who want to meet Nick Jonas.
Is it right for a holiday wish to involve another person? I think so, especially when it is more personal than meeting the Jonas Brothers.
Nathanaelray wants "to get home to my family in time for Christmas." Reading a post like that makes me thankful that I am with my family. It also prompts me to pray for those who are away from family and loved ones during the holidays.
There are a number of wishes to spend the holidays with that special someone. There appear to be a lot of unhappy people who will spend the holidays away from the one they love. Some twitter posts name a specific person they want to be part of their life, others offer a simple wish for special friends. This is enough to urge me to reach out to others, especially those who are alone, during the holidays.
Lovers want more than just to have someone in their life, they express the desire to have someone and even tell the world when and where they would like to have their loved one. Too much information! Their desired rendezvous is no longer secret, and there is no telling who will show up.
Personal growth the best of December wish
A surprising number of December wishes on Twitter are from college and university students. These wishes are almost offered as prayers to pass classes, get A's, finish an essay, or to do well on finals. I am impressed by the number of students who demonstrate the drive to pursue their education. I'm encouraged to hear from those in next generation who are striving to learn and grow.
Megala256's simple wish is touching. Her wish is simply, " to be happy." That wish was echoed by many posters. It is heartbreaking to realize there are so many unhappy people in the world.
There are those who want to move their mental, emotional, and spiritual life farther and deeper. 89ito takes it farther with a wish for "full peace." That's an inspiration.
While Jessycagraca would be happy with "world peace, even for just one day," another wish was for one day without yelling and poison filled words. This was another poignant reminder of how many people there are who are neither happy nor at peace.
Outlandish wish list on December wish (#Decemberwish on Twitter)
Best wishes for December emanate from the heart, but for every tender aspiration or desire there is one that comes out of the crevices of creative gray matter.
Beauty7544 wants a ride on Santa's sleigh, while rezalibrawan will settle for a time machine!
Loudmouthed mom wants Glenn Beck to get kicked off the air "before he incites an assassination attempt." Is that a December wish, a political wish, or a mouth off from a loud mouth?
Chad8992 didn't seem to care much about the holidays or politics. He wants Eggo Waffles, but there are others out there who prefer Waffle House delivery.
December Wish on Twitter is an eye opening trend
One of the great things about Decemberwish (#Decemberwish) on Twitter is that it doesn't matter whether you are celebrating Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza, or no holiday at all. You can post a December wish because you have one.
I'm enjoying Twitter's December wish posts. The wishes offer incredible insight into Twitter users and people in general.
