Most people in our nation never experienced the hard times of the depression. Older folks remember it with sorrow. Many stood on long soup lines for hours to get their daily food. But the nation might have to go back to those bitter times. It will be a big change for those that have been accustomed to the highest standard of living in the world. Everything that goes up must come down and it will soon be a time to face reality.
The homeless population can increase to an estimated 15 million by 2011 because mortgage foreclosures and unemployment will keep rising. The government might come to the rescue by requisitioning idle living space in private homes. Those with rooms that are unused would have to temporarily relinquish them. Not only would we share the wealth, but also share our homes with the less fortunate. It will be hard times for a few years, but compassion and sacrifice is what made our nation great.

Good article. Hopefully, the bailout program will jump-start the economy. However, during 2009 we are likely to see unemployment rates approach 10% before any recovery.
