Sharing the Gospel

Our Primary Mission

Mathew Paul
Preaching the Gospel

Sharing the Gospel is the essence of the Christian life, it is the primary reason we are here. Mark 16:15 is probably my favorite verse on this issue. The verse says, "And he said onto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Clearly the Bible command is to spread the gospel as much as possible.

Great and wonderful things happen, sometimes in this life and always in the next life, when we preach the gospel. Matthew 11:5 tells us that "The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them."

While Christians are commanded to spread the gospel and share their faith, some foolishly hide their faith. This famous story makes this abundantly clear.

Hiding Your Faith

One day, a little girl was rummaging through a trunk in the attic when she found a letter at the bottom of the trunk. The family had moved to the area several years earlier, and the mother wrote the letter to one of the local churches. For whatever reason, she never mailed it, and it wound up in the bottom of the trunk in the attic.
The child read the letter and was overwhelmed with excitement. She ran down downstairs to her mother and shouted, "Oh mother, I found your religion in your trunk!"

At one point, the mother was interested in spiritual things and had inquired about joining this particular church, but she failed to follow through. Her daughter was surprised to accidentally find her mother's religion in a trunk in the attic.

There's an important lesson in this story for all of us. Your faith, your religion, is not to he hidden in the closet or the attic. Your faith is something you share with the world, with as many people as possible. After all, sharing our faith with the world is our most important mission in life.

The Gospel

The clearest explanation of the gospel is found in John 3:16, which states: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, so that whosoever believeth in him should not parish, but have eternal life." To believe in Him simply means that He died for your sins to pay the penalty for those sins so you could have eternal life. He offers eternal life as a gift, and once you accept this gift a new life begins. He has a better life planned for you and wants you to follow Him in everything you do. To believe in Him is to believe that he will lead you through all of life's problems, and give you a better life of peace and joy. It is a peace and a joy beyond anything you have ever known.
