The Indianapolis Colts opened the season playing against the New Orleans Saints ending in a 41 to 10 win for the Colts. But how could a team go wrong having Quarterback Peyton Manning and Running back Joseph Addai on your team? It really doesn't get much better unless you're a Seattle Seahawk and your name is Shaun Alexander.
The first game of the season for the Seattle Seahawks was on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at Quest Field in Seattle, Washington; and Shaun Alexander was definitely present and ready to play football. The predictions for Shaun weren't good coming into this year though. Three questions, that football commentators and the football world at large, that gave the indication that Shaun may not play as well as he did in his MVP year of 2005 were: Was his foot healed enough? Would his turning thirty years old (beginning to be old for a running back) be a factor in his being able to play? And would he be able to reclaim the success that he enjoyed in the 2005 year? I say he can do it as good if not better than then.
When Shaun Alexander broke his foot last season, scores of people doubted his successful return to the NFL. There is one thing I'd like to know though: Shaun played on his broken foot for several weeks and how many people could walk much less play football on a broken foot? This season, in interviews, he's said he's feeling better and stronger than ever. Sunday's game was a good indication of that. He ran for 105 yards and had a touchdown while playing the Buccaneers on Sunday. That's not too bad for a thirty-year-old running back!
Shaun played with all the skill and finesse of the 2005 year when he was named NFL's Most Valuable Player. I predict he can do all that he did in the 2005-year and better. I think the way he played in Sunday's game is just a small glimpse of how well Shaun will play this year. So to all the other NFL players and fans: Watch out! Shaun is definitely back!
