The New York Giants had a week off to rest and heal. As you would expect, not everybody is 100 percent at the beginning of November. Giants head coach Tom Coughlin offered a few injury updates on Monday morning.
Shaun O'Hara is dealing with a "mild mid-foot sprain" according to Coughlin. "That's all I can tell you," Coughlin said. "I don't make this stuff up. The doctors said that word (mild), so I'm going to use it." O'Hara is expected to be listed as questionable until Sunday, but he could miss at least two weeks of action; potentially more, as this type of injury has been known to be season ending in the past.
CB Bruce Johnson had arthroscopic knee surgery this past week. No word on how long Johnson will be sidelined.
The Giants signed kick returner Will Blackmon after placing Mathias Kiwanuka on IR last Thursday. Simply put, Darius Reynaud was just not getting the job done returning kickoffs and punts. Thus far, Coughlin is impressed with Blackmon, saying "You can see the athleticism. You saw him run a couple of kicks back and he worked well on the scout team and we'll see...He's well known. I mean, he's been an outstanding returner and part-timer at both safety and corner, so he's got versatility. He's still young, athletic."
While surprising, the Bruce Johnson injury is hardly one that will cripple New York's pass defense. He'll likely miss a few weeks, but the team should be able to replace his five tackles in six games without much worry. The O'Hara injury could be more serious than what's currently being reported. Many close to the organization expect O'Hara to sit this Sunday. Adam Koets is expected to get the start in O'Hara's place.
