Shaun White Wins Olympic Halfpipe Gold Before His Second Run!

Shaun White Wins Gold Before Double McTwist 1260

Defending halfpipe champion Shaun White wins Olympic halfpipe gold, Scotty Lago wins bronze! An amazing turn of events as the "flying tomato" reaches gold before his second run and his latest trick, the double McTwist 1260.

Cypress Mountain Halfpipe Finals:

Scotty Lago was the top score throughout the first run until Shaun White touched the hard surface with his snowboard. Shaun White's first halfpipe run scored him at first place with 48.4 as he reached at least 20 feet at the beginning of his run. White skipped his double McTwist 1260 saving it for his second run. White led Scotty Lago by 4. Louie Vito reached heights leading him to a bronze spot. The U.S. Olympic halfpipe team had one objective at mind, never low, score high.

White stopped for a moment to express how good it felt to sweat then was back in line for the second run.

Louie Vito was knocked out of the bronze spot quickly. Lago briefly fell but still reached a bronze. But no one had scores high enough to beat out Shaun White during the second run. Shaun White went gold before his last run. So, White did whatever he wanted to on his second run. He had some fun with his new trick.

The crowd anticipation grew and White did not disappoint. He owned Cypress Mountain's halfpipe during that last run which finished with his double McTwist 1260 while AC/DC's Back in Black played in the background. After touching ground, taking off his board, White chanted "U.S.A, U.S.A!"

During 2009 Shaun White was secretly tucked away in a private halfpipe deep in the backwoods of Colorado behind Silverton Mountain. A private haven that would prove his golden playground where he worked on his Font Double Cork 10, Switch Back 900, Double Back Rodeo, Cab Double Cork 10, and double McTwist 1260 "Whitesnake".

Scotty Lago most likely scored his bronze with his crew member at mind, without a doubt. Lago is a member of Frends Crew, a group of talented snowboarders that includes Kevin Pearce. Kevin Pearce was an Olympic hopeful until he crashed during training resulting in a brain injury. Pearce is said to be doing well.

Shaun White brings home the gold, McTwice. Scotty Lago brings home the bronze.

Place two more golds this week on the medal chart thanks to the U.S. snowboard teams. Seth Wescott won gold two nights ago for the SBX competition. For more on that visit Maine Man Seth Wescott. The U.S. is leading in gold medals.

Add Lago's bronze and the U.S. is leading in Olympic medals.
