Shawty was the first song from Plies. This was the debut song off of the his first album, The Real Testament. This song, produced by Drumma Boy, Ensayne, and T-Pain, features T-Pain in the song. It was released on July 10, 2007 as a CD single and as a digital download. This song runs 4:15 long. This song was certified as platinum by the RIAA. It was T-Pain's fifth single that reached the top ten and was his first top ten single as a featured album. This song was released first off Plies album, coming before I'm So Hood. Bartender was the song that came before this by T-Pain, and the next song T-Pain went on to release was Cyclone. This song ended up being the most popular song off the album, in front of Hypnotized with Akon.

There is a remix version, in which Webbie and T-Pain. There is another remix that was made, featuring a verse by Dizasta. The remix was released on August 28, 1007. The term Shawty is said to have a term of endearment for a woman and is defined along the same lines as the word 'baby'. Plies said that the term refers to someone of the opposite sex in which you understand. There has been a female version of the song that was created. This version was made by Tawna. The official remix features Trey Songz and Pleasure P. There have also been two more remixes that were made. Both of these were made by Mike Jones and were released as a part of his mixtapes.

The music video for this song was first played on BET's 106 & Park. It was also seen on MTV's Discover & Download. The video features some well-known people. Celebrity cameos include Rick Ross, Rich Boy, Edgerrin James, and Jevon Kearse.

This song performed very well on the United States charts, as an international chart. It was able to reach the top spot in two charts - the U.S. Billboard Hot Rap Tracks and the U.S. Billboard Rhythmic Top 40. It reached a peak of second on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and twenty-second on the U.S. Billboard Pop 100. This song made it up to ninth on the U. S. Billboard Hot 100. The only international chart that is placed onto was the New Zealand Singles Chart. It was able to make it up to spot ten.
