She and I

A Powers
So many years ago, when the wind
blew sweet over rippled grass,
and She and i found pictures in the clouds.
Running barefoot through nature's carpet,
fingers splayed and mouths open
to catch the wind.
Sitting on a log, singing about birds
and reciting Alice in Wonderland.
(I was the Cheshire cat and tried
my very best to disappear.)
(Her laughter was gold.)
And I would run inside and sit
and look across at sparking eyes
and carefree fingers.
(Picking at peas.)
And breathe in the happy.
So many years ago...
(and still seeing pictures in the clouds)
She and i.
