She is a queen
the woman who raised me
along with four others - she
Who taught me to taste
life's juicy nectar - the pulp,
the rind, and even the bitter
hard, center pit - she
Who read stories with me,
played cards with me -
she actually still does. She
Who laughs at my silly,
corny faces and attitudes,
regularly. If she upsets me,
suddenly - I can't breathe
My lungs fill with air-
a wind of gusty disappointment
flows through my chest - touching
Everything that feels - Inside,
I cry. I call my sister
or a good friend; Then -
After much ado about nothing -
I forgive her. After all,
she's my mother -
the one who gave me life
