She-Ra, Princess of Power: Character Guide of the Great Rebellion

Whose Who in the Whispering Woods- a Look at the Good Guys in She-Ra

D. S. Ploshay
The Princess of Power, She-Ra was a toy line and cartoon launched by Mattel and Filmation a response to He-Man: Master of the Universe only attracting young males.

She-Ra and her crew led the Great Rebellion against Hordak and others in the evil Horde. Most of the stories took place on the planet Etheria and in the Whispering Woods, although some plots also went to Eternia. Here is a look at some of the good characters, and a look at the evil characters will follow in a second article. (Click on author's name to locate story.)

THE GOOD SHE-RA CHARACTERS: The Great Rebellion

She-Ra/Adora
She-Ra, whose real identity is Princess Adora was captured by evil Hordak and was the Force-Captain of the Horde. When she was reunited with her brother, Price Adam he told her about her true destiny-they were He-Man and She-Ra. She-Ra headed to planet Ertheria to join in the rebellion against Hordak. Glimmer, who was head of the Great Rebellion passed the torch along to She-Ra.

Spirit/Swift Wind
Spirit is Princess Adora's horse. But, when Adora transforms into the Princess of Power, Spirit also makes a transformation, into the magical winged unicorn Swift Wind. Both Spirit and Swift Wind can talk, however Swift Wind can communicate telepathically with She-Ra, fly at a high speed and has super strength.

Glimmer
Glimmer is the Princess of Bright Moon. She established the Great Rebellion with Bow after her mother and father disappeared after battling the Evil Horde. He-Man and She-Ra later saved her mother. Glimmer returned to Bright Moon to be with her mother, and turned over the reins of the Rebellion to She-Ra. Glimmer's powers are associated with light, hence her name. She can generate photoelectronic energy blasts and she can create and fly through aura of light.

Kowl
Kowl is a friendly creature that resembles an owl and a koala bear. He is one of only three characters that know the Adora is really She-Ra. Kowl is also a good friend of Bow's, although the two actually seem to have a classic love-hate relationship.

Bow & Arrow
Bow is the only male member of the Great Rebellion and is said to be the best archer in all of Ertheria. Arrow is his horse.

Flutterina
Flutterina made her debut in the She-Ra series when She-Ra saved her from Hordak and the Evil Horde. At the time, she was called "The Small One." After She-Ra brought her to the Crystal Castle, Small One was turned into a butterfly and dubbed Flutterina. Her powers are that she can fly and carry heavy weights. She can also turn herself into a small butterfly.

Mermista
Mermista is Princess of Salineas, the underwater area of Ertheria. Although it is against her father's wishes, she aids the Great Rebellion against the Horde. She can telepathically communicate with sea creatures and has control over the water. She can also turn her tail into human legs, allowing her to walk on land.

Frosta
Frosta is queen of Castle Chill, located in the cold north of Ertheia. She has a powerful staff that can turn her enemies and objects into ice. She can also create ice and snow at will, and even creating ways for her to get here and there out of ice. She is attracted to He-Man.

Castaspella
Castaspella is a sorceress that practices white magic. She has many magical powers that can aid the Great Rebellion, such as the ability of teleporting and shape-shifting. She wears magical discs in her wrists that can send out blasts of energy, too. Castapella is attraced to Adora's (She-Ra's real identity) brother, Prince Adam (He-Man).

Lo-Kee
Lo-Kee was a colorful chipmunk like creature that could be called the Where's Waldo of She-Ra. He was hidden in every episode of She-Ra, and then appeared at the end and told the moral of the story. He also appeared as a character in some episodes.

Peekablue
Peekablue was a minor character on She-Ra. She was able to spread out her feathers like a peacock in order to see great distances. She did not live in the Whispering Woods and would only appear on occasion to help the Great Rebellion.

Perfuma
Perfuma had the power to make flowers and vegetation grow at will. She could also spray a perfume on her enemies to make them pass out.

Queen Angella
This winged character is the mother of Glimmer and the Queen of Bright Moon. She has many of the same powers as Glimmer, but she can fly because she has wings.

Madame Razz & Broom
Madame Razz is a witch that rides around on Broom. She's usually not very successful with her spells, although she has good intentions. Razz also knows She-Ra's secret.

Other good She-Ra characters: Light Hops, Spritina, Sorrowful, Sweet Bee, Netossa, Spinerella, Huntara, Starla and Tall Star

My youngest daughter is now 26, but way back for her 5th birthday, I hired a She-Ra character to come entertain the kids... for some odd reason more fathers escorted their kids to the party than mothers that year. heh.
