She is at My Side

(A Poem for My Mother)

Lisa R. Strong
Light shines through;
Split into rainbow colors;
Reflecting in the morning sun;
Broken and kept hidden;
Tucked away in a dresser drawer;
A special gift that was meant for her;
She said the prayers as best she could;
Before her time got small;
The only comfort that she had;
In her tumultuous life;
She had found the Lord again;
After all those years;
Crystal beads broken;
Set aside and forgotten;
Until yesterday, as I thought of her;
Now as good as new;
When I hold them in my hands;
I can feel her close to me;
When I close my eyes;
I can hear her prayers;
Whispered through my heart;
When I draw my dying breath;
I pray that she will know;
That I have never forgotten;
The good things that she did;
I am glad that she has finally found;
A mother's love that she never had;
And I long for the peace;
That she knows right now;
Wrapped in the mantle of her Mother;
At the throne of her Father;
One day I hope;
That I will see her there;
In a place where only love resides;
But for now I know;
She is at my side.
