"Shear Genius" Opts to Choose No Winner

The Charlie's Angels Challenge KO's All of the Stylists

Last night, Bravo Network's "Shear Genius" was an unmitigated disaster for the judges and fans alike. In a challenge that should have allowed the hairstylists to soar to new heights, instead they came away looking like rank amateurs.

The night started off well enough with an extreme cut and color shortcut challenge. The stylists were asked to give their client's "in your face" bright and bold color and edgy haircuts. Some succeeded while others fell flat on their faces.

Charlie went for a carousel horse motif with a pompadour hairstyle in brown, black, pink, and purple. Both his client and the gues judget, Kim Vo, were pleased with the final results.

Daniel attempted to dye his client's hair red and pink but it didn't pop and came out very monotone. However, I respected the hairdresser for admitting that he flopped rather than making excuses for his obvious failure.

Dee created a bird of paradise, complete with the perfect cut, style, and colors in five different shades in yellow, orange, red, green, and blue. The lines were clean, the colors were perfect, and best of all, her customer was happy.

Glenn's circles of yellow, pink, and purple left judge Kim Vo wondering what she was thinking. He was disappointed by her lack of creativity.

Nekesia promised to take her client a beautiful shade of blue mixed with fuschia and purple. However, she claimed that a sink back up allowed the blue dye to mix with the other colors, preventing the style from coming out quite right. Unfortunately, the color wasn't the only problem. The cut was boring and lifeless as well.

Nicole's flame red simply flamed out. It was mostly one, boring tone.

Paulo's chosen blue didn't happen either. The client's dark hair simply got blacker and left her in heartbroken tears.

Nekesia and Paulo were chosen as the bottom two. Nekesia lost her temper and dared to call the judge's decision unfair. Paulo took his punishment like a man, in spite of the fact that he was chosen as the ultimate loser.

Charlie and Dee shared the top spots. But it was Charlie's unusual hairstyle that helped him pull off the win. He received immunity for the next challenge and a reward that would influence the upcoming elimination challenge.

This week's elimination challenge was the one that the stylists had been waiting and hoping for - - the Charlie's Angel's Challenge. The stylists were divided into teams of two hand chosen by Charlie.

Each team was then given three girls to work on to update the famous angel hairstyles of Jaclyn Smith (Kelly), Kate Jackson (Sabrina), and Farah Fawcett (Jill). The teams were Nekesia and Dee, Nicole and Glenn, and Paulo and Daniel. Charlie floated during the challenge to help everyone out.

Unfortunately, the stylists didn't get the point of the challenge. Instead of taking on the famous "dos" to update and bring them into the 21st century, they seemed intent on creating caricatures of the three beloved angels. Not one of the teams delivered a single style that the judges believed worthy of Charlie's Angels.

Consequently, for the first time, there was no winner named during the elimination challenge. Allure Magazine said that they could not in all honesty print any of the hairstyles in their magazine.

While there was no winner chosen, that didn't mean that someone wasn't going to be eliminated. In fact, the impression the judging panel gave was that they would have gladly dumped more than a single stylist if given the option.

Glenn and Nekesia landed in the bottom two. Glenn's old lady hairstyle failed to impress while Nekesia's "Farah" was unpolished and incomplete.

In the end, Glenn's inability to produce an updated style cost her the competition.

If this week was any indication of the real talent of this year's hairdressers, Bravo might want to go back to the drawing board. I know people with no expertise in the beauty industry who could have produced styles 10 times better than those seen last night. What a disappointment to Jaclyn Smith and her special guest judge, Kate Jackson.

I never intended to get in to this show, but I find it to be really entertaining. I think Dee should've won the short cut challenge, too. Her style fit everything they asked for: it had vibrant color, but it was also wearable. The stylists did such a poor job with the Charlie's Angels cuts. I thought the Farrah's were the worst. They looked like bad pageant hair. Great article!

OMG! This episode was such a dissapointment! I agreed with the judges that NO ONE should have won! I am nopt even a hair dresser but could have came up with better styles then they all did! I have always felt they always made Kate Jackson look plain as compared to the other two and would have hooked her up for a change! I think she is gorgeous and was always my fav.. I was sad to see no one really produced something that would have complimented her and showed some real viality! (sp)

I agree, Judith, Dee's cut had more flair and fit more in line with the instructions given. She deserved the win.
