Sheehan's Bid to Oust Bush

Divestment Supporter
Cindy Sheehan has announced an ultimatum to the first female Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi. She wants Speaker Pelosi to begin impeachment proceedings against Bush within two weeks.

So, what is Sheehan's plan? Pelosi's district has a liberal Democrat majority that will surely reelect Pelosi over most any Republican challenger, unless Cindy enters the race. She could spoil the results rather easily, considering the amount of coverage she has received from the national media. Republicans must already be looking for a candidate to pit against a weakened Pelosi in Sacramento.

Knowing this, and knowing that Speaker Pelosi knows this as well, we can see that Cindy Sheehan is truly wanting a Bush/Cheney impeachment. And it's a great way to go about it.! Something else that happened this week certainly makes me wish her well. Despite Bush being hamstrung on the domestic scene, he still has control over the U.S. military and is capable of using them to wage another war, perhaps of drastically nuclear proportions.

President Putin of Russia called a 'Sudden-Summit' with President Bush, taking a detour from his flight to Guatemala for the 2014 Olympics announcement. Russian military intelligence picked up on coded messages, being relayed between the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Air Force strategic nuclear forces, that were much larger and more frequent than normal, a sure indicator of a planned attack. Putin's advisors alerted him to a possible U.S. strike on Iranian nuclear facilities.

So, what did Putin have to say to Bush? Russia has been providing civilian aid help Iran in the construction of nuclear reactors for energy production. As a result, any attack on Iranian nuclear facilities would mean the deaths of many Russian engineers. Putin's reported response was that any nuclear attack on Iranian nuclear facilities would be viewed as an attack on Russia.

Fortunately for us mortals, the logic of nuclear weapons is such that they are extremely unlikely to be used in a rational situation, because of the world-destroying potential of them and the sheer numbers armed and ready to fly, both the U.S. and Russia have thousands of missiles armed with nuclear warheads. The mythos of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) doesn't hold so much water though, when we look at past accidents and the many 'out of touch encounters' we've had with the Bush Administration

Unfortunately for us, in times of stress the machinery that protects us from unintended launches is more likely to fail catastrophically, machinery that includes a human component. If that wasn't bad enough, we can rationally, and based on the evidence thus far of the Bush Presidency, suspect that Bush may try to call Putin's bluff. The fact is that the Neoconservative political game-plan has been hampered, yet their military game-plan is still working marvellously. Impeachment takes on more practical reasoning at this point. The Bush White House is an ever-present danger because of their belligerence and arrogance.

I don't normally like getting involved with national, electoral politics, but this has a definite twist. Cindy deserves all our support, because she may just save the world.

Hello! I wish I could stick around and chat, introduce myself even, but...Yeah, I'm really busy working on a new queer manifesto. Make yourself at home!  View profile

  • The U.S. currently has 7,982 deployed nuclear warheads.
The list of nuclear weapons accidents is incomplete but long. One partial list can be found here.

General rule of thumb is that Republicans are 100% corporate subservient while Democrats are 80%. This follows campaign contributions. I don't like either, but what can a reasonable person do? Sheehan appeals to Pelosi, because Pelosi, whatever her other qualities, is Speaker of the House right now. And yes, puppet Presidents should be impeached along with the VP in this case. This move isn't delusional but a case of Realpolitik for once involving a player from outside the elite's inner circle.

You rock. The unAmerican label lets you know you're doing something right.

Stop the world I wanna get off think I will go play some mindless computer games. Actually whatizname Feingold and Cynthia McKinney have introduced legislation to impeach. The impeachment process, I am told, would still be going on well past the 2008 election so it is a mute point at the moment. (I think the Congress should do so anyway, but the Bush regime might decide that anyone that pursues it is an "enemy combatant") If we did get Bush/Cheney out, who would be next in line? Someone GWB handpicked to carry on his way (or no way). We, the people, got set up big time. I have been called anti-American so many times since "911" by family and stranges alike. (I am a Code Pinker) I have little sympathy for the people that are whinning about GWB now and Big Brother government.
