Sheet Music Embellished Photo Frames

Landra Lynn Jacobs
Decorative photos frames can be quite costly in stores. Thankfully, creating your own is incredibly simple! These whimsical sheet music embellished photo frames can be completed in a few hours and are great for holding photos of recitals, concerts, etc.

For this project, you will need (per photo frame):

- One unfinished wooden photo frame (available at craft supply shops and dollar stores)
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black
- Krylon Spray Adhesive
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Sheet music
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Favorite photo
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth

To start, cover the space you will be crafting your photo frame project with newspaper and/or a large drop cloth. Remove the backing and glass from the unfinished wooden photo frame. Set these two pieces aside, as they will not be used until the very end of the crafting project.

With medium or fine grit sandpaper, smooth the outside edges of the wooden photo frame. Wipe down the frame using a soft cloth or tack cloth to remove any dust. Prime the entire outside of the wooden photo frame with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Let it dry for about an hour. Paint the frame with several coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black. Allow the painted wood to dry completely before continuing with the project.

Decide how much of the frame you want to cover with sheet music. This can be all over, small shapes, lettering, or anything you would like. Turn the sheet music face down onto the self healing mat. With a ruler and a pencil, mark the backside of the paper. Cut out the design with a craft knife.

Spray the non-print side of your sheet music design with Krylon Spray Adhesive. Adhere the sheet music design onto the frame. Smooth the paper with your fingers to prevent any air bubbling underneath the paper. Coat the entire frame using Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Allow the frame to set for a few hours or overnight.

Insert the glass back into the frame. Add a favorite photo. Insert the backing and secure it in place. Enjoy your new creation!

TIP: Additional details can be added by using an artist's paintbrush and acrylic paint.
