Sheets Are a Wonderful Inexpensive Tool to Decorate Your First Home With

Stephanie Nolan
At one time or another everyone moves out of mom and dad's house. You are finally in your own home. Maybe it is an apartment, or a house. No matter where you find yourself sleeping at night, you will need to make it feel like home. I know when I moved out on my own, I did not have a lot of money to put into my first home. I walked through my door looked around, and thought to myself now what? If you find yourself in this situation I hope that will help you. An unfurnished home looks and feels empty. They are loud as well. Sheets work wonderful for many reasons. You can pick them up at local thrift stores, etc. I will show you little tricks that will help your home look and feel furnished.

Curtains

Sheets make wonderful curtains. You can pick and chose any color or pattern you like. Make sure to hem the top in order to fit the curtain through the rod. I have used sheets many times as curtains in my life. They look just as pretty on the outside as they do on the inside. If you like the country feel, try to find blue and white checkered or plaid patterns.

Table Top

Sheets make a wonderful tablecloth. Make sure to find a sheet that corresponds with the colors you chose for your curtains. Top the tablecloth with a lace table cloth that you can pick up at your local dollar store. Add the finishing touch of a basket of artificial flowers or candles.

Chairs

If you cannot afford much for furniture you can buy inexpensive outdoor chairs. Make cushions out of sheets for the seat and the back of the chairs. Cut the fabric to size, leaving about an inch or so for hemming. Sew three sides of the fabric together (inside out) and turn the fabric the right way. Once the fabric is turned the right way, fill with batting. You can purchase batting at you r local craft store or Wal-mart. Once full, turn in the hems and sew the last

Bathroom

Use a sheet as a shower curtain. You will still need a liner. You can use another sheet to make a sink skirt. Pillow cases come in very hand for curtains.

Bedroom

You can sew two sheets together for a duvet cover. Make matching pillow cases. You can also use cardboard or whatever for a fast fix, when you are in need of an end table. Cover it with a sheet.

Headboard

If you do not have a proper bed yet, you can purchase a piece of wood at your local supply store. Cover the wood with batting. Next cover with a sheet, and staple it on in the back.

Have fun decorating your home with sheets. It is really easy and a fun thing to do. Remember when you have old furniture sheets make a wonderful cover for that as well. Happy Decorating!
