Shelter Taking Contributions for Sick Dog - Everman, TX

Continuing their tradition of assisting sickly creatures, the Everman Animal Shelter and Friends of the Everman Shelter are taking up a collection to help one of their ill canines named Sarah. (Source: Anna Horton).

The organizations have taken in very sick or extremely injured dogs and raised money for vet bills through the years and one volunteer says they also do "a great job of nursing a dog back to physical or emotional health."

This is a no-kill shelter and they are known for keeping "unadoptables" as long as it takes to find their home.

Sarah is known as sweet and gentle and has even been "looked after" by one of the volunteer's deaf dog's, Luke.

"If we all put a couple of dollars in an envelope and mail it off to the Friends of Everman Shelter or directly to the vet it will help this little dog get what she needs," says Anna Horton, a local animal shelter volunteer and activist.

Teresa Weldon, the shelter's animal control officer, said that Sarah is "a sick little girl."

"This little girl wags her tail and meets you at the door regardless of of how bad she feels," she states. "She wants to be your lap dog and feel your touch any chance she gets."

Weldon added that Sarah never growls at the other dogs or puppies and will move away from a food bowl if another dog comes over to eat.

"She is an absolute love," she writes. "She has had more love and care in the time that we have had her than she has ever known."

Weldon wrote that the dog deserves a chance at life and to be able to "give all that love that she has to that special someone."

"This girl has touched my heart and the people at the vet's office," Weldon said. "There is just something special about this little sweetheart."

Sarah had surgery Nov. 3 and the vet removed an electric wire from her belly.

"This wire (of some kind) had apparently been there awhile, the doctor said, and that they must have missed it when she came in the last time infested with worms, parasites, and bloated like a basketball," Weldon explained. "They also discovered that her liver is small and there was a blood vessel that was by-passing it."

The doctor tied off the vessel to force the blood to travel through the liver and had the dog spayed at the same time.

"She (Sarah) has a long way to go," Weldon said. "It is in her and God's hands now."

Donations may be sent to the Alvarado Vet Clinic, 6800 E. Highway 67, Alvarado, TX 76009 or to the Friends of the Everman Animal Shelter, 321 Johnson Drive, Everman, TX 76140.
