But not just any bedtime nest - a Kuranda Bed for Domestic Animal Services pets in Collier County, FL.

"After our recent visit to Collier County's Domestic Animals Services (DAS) we found that most dogs did not have a Kuranda bed to lay or sleep on," stated Kelly Fox, an animal supporter and activist in the area. "Kuranda beds provide a shelter dog with a soft, comfortable, dry place to relax which every dog deserves."

Fox said it is she and Bibi Barrett, another supporter's goal is to make sure that all animals at DAS have a Kuranda bed.

"The Dog Bed Challenge started about three weeks ago in an Orlando shelter," she writes. "Marty Becker, DVM from petconnection.com, the resident vet on 'Good Morning America' and part of the core team for 'The Dr. Oz Show' visited the shelter while in Orlando."

Fox wrote that after seeing a need for shelters to get beds for their animals, Becker met with the bed company Kuranda to ask if they would go the extra mile and lower their bed prices for shelter pets.

"Last week this wonderful news was announced on 'The Dr. Oz Show,'" Fox states. "As Dr. Becker said, 'Let's help some pets rise up (off the concrete), lie down (on a comfy bed), and move out (into a loving home)."

The goal is to get 100 beds donated to DAS.

In unrelated pet news, over 3,000 shelter cats got the food they needed this winter. Cat manufacturer The Refined Feline's "Feed 500" Program exceeded expectations raising funds to provide meals to hungry cats in animal shelters across the country, according to owner Josh Feinkind.

"The refinedfeline.com is pleased to announce the results of its inaugural 'Feed 500 Felines' drive launched to help alleviate the problem of hunger," stated Feinkind in a press release. "As part of 'Feed 500 Felines' The Refined Feline donated a portion of its sales from November to February to various animal shelters nationwide."

Votes were cast for 243 shelters and Top Ten vote-getters and recipients of monies raised were: Capital Area Animal Welfare Society, Baton Rouge, LA; Animal Lovers, Albany, NY; A Tail at a Time, New York, NY; Forever Home Feline Ranch, Springfield, IL.; Rikki's Refuge, Orange, VA; Catnap from the Heart, Inc., LaGrange Park, IL.; Blind Cat Rescue, St. Pauls, NC; Noah's Ark Animal Rescue Association, Ledgewood, NJ; Love-A-Stray, Akron, OH; and Paws and Purrs Rescue, Inc., Scottsville, NY.

"When visiting the company website consumers were informed how many cats could be fed by purchasing a particular product," the release said.
