"The shelter is a very small facility without a lot of resources," states Jonathan Betz, reporter with WFAA, Channel 8 News.

In unrelated pet news, PetSmart Charities Rescue Waggin' celebrated five years in 2009 with more than 27,000 lives saved, according to a press release. Their 25,000th rescue was a dog named Ernie.

The company is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations and all financial contributions are tax-deductible.

A stolen, neglected dog has been rescued and has received life-saving medical care through the MSPCA-Angell shelter in Massachusetts. Rocky, a one-year-old English Bulldog, was seized by Lawrence law enforcement when he was found emaciated and covered in his own feces. Rocky's story took a dramatic twist when MSPCA staff discovered an implanted microchip ID on the dog, according to a statement issued.

The MSPCA is requesting donations from the public to help care for Rocky as he continues his battle to regain his health.

Donations may be made at mspca.org or mailed to MSPCA-Angell, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA, 02130. The contact number is 617-522-7400.

The Everman Animal Shelter in Everman, Texas had around 20 puppies in July.

"Roger and I had the pleasure of meeting Theresa, the animal control officer at the Everman Animal Shelter when we took some food to them - they had opened their last bag of dog food that day," said Marybelle Denton, an animal shelter volunteer and activist. "Theresa has been the ACO at the Everman facility since February of this year - only accepting the job after they said they would let her run it as she thought it should be run. Roger and I were in awe of the work these amazing ladies are accomplishing - Theresa is very adamant about following up on making sure the animals that are adopted from the shelter are getting fixed which is so very important and yet so often overlooked which only adds to the problem."

The shelter, also in need of monetary contributions, is located at 3961 Bluebell Drive in Everman and the phone number is 817-561-5495.

Adoption fees are $30 which include shots (consists of rabies vaccine also) and a $4 registration fee if you live in Everman and must get your pet fixed.

Those interested in volunteering may contact Marybelle Denton at marybelle.denton@lmco.com.

Animal shelters have been going through an incredible amount of food and supplies with the recession, especially.

For example, every day Operation Kindness in Carrollton, TX, a no-kill animal shelter, uses a minimum of 75 pounds of dry and a minimum of 30 pounds of wet food for puppies and dogs.
