The Opera House Film Club at the Opera House in Shepherdstown, West Virginia has to be one of the best bargains for parents and children. The film club is geared towards children, so on Saturday, December 18, I was able to take my daughter to see "Frosty the Snowman," "Frosty Returns," and "Home Alone" all in the historic theater.

Club members get two movies every Saturday for a month. The membership cost is an affordable five dollars a person. The soft drinks are the old fashioned bottled ones, and popcorn and candy are also available. For parents, the theater also sells adult beverages.

Children and adults can sit on a variety of seating choices. The front section of the theater has coaches, various cushioned and beanbag chairs. Most of the seating in the theater is traditional theater seats. However, the management added pillows to most of the seats for added comfort. A nice touch for the holiday season is the Christmas tree below the screen. It's nicely lit and does not distract from the films.

Children can be children, and everyone enjoyed the movies. The Opera House Film Club is geared towards younger audiences. I have to admit it was a Christmas treat to see the original "Frosty the Snowman" on the big screen. Since "Frosty the Snowman" was a short movie they also played "Frosty Returns." There was about an hour of down time in between the movies. One started at 11a.m. and one started at 1p.m. I used the time to check out some of the quaint shops and let my three year old stomp around in the snow. Others used their time to grab lunch at one of the local restaurants. My daughter played more during "Home Alone." However, she used her day at the theater to make some new friends. She thoroughly enjoyed her day at the movies and is eager to watch more movies. If the point of the film club is to create young movie lovers they have succeeded with my little girl.

My daughter had a wonderful time. I found myself deeper into the Christmas Spirit after watching the holiday movies. The movies and playing in the snow had my daughter sound a sleep in the back of my car for the ride home.
