Sherri Shepherd, Vivica Fox Announce Engagements; Gary Collins Arrested; Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift Break Up

Engagements Galore!

There's quite a lot of positives to report today from a various corners of the celeb world. First off, according to E! Online, The View co-host Sherri Shepherd has announced her engagement to TV writer Lamar Sally. The couple was engaged Dec. 26 and are planning to wed this August in Chicago. Apparently, prior to asking Shepherd, Sally made sure to ask her 5-year-old son for his permission to marry his mother. Sounds like a keeper to me!

Vivica A. Fox is officially off the market! Like Shepherd, Fox's boyfriend and Atlantic club promoter Omar "Slim" White popped the question the day after Christmas, slipping an 8 carat diamond ring on Fox's finger. This will be her second marriage and the first for 27-year-old White.

Taking a detour to the writers side of celebdom, author Neil Gaiman married his fiancé, Dresden Dolls singer Amanda Palmer, on Jan. 2 in a small, but star-studded ceremony. The couple was married in the home of Wonderboys author Michael Chabon and Daniel Handler aka Lemony Snicket played accordion as Palmer walked down the stairs. Jason Webley, the other half of Palmer's new musical group Evelyn Evelyn, was ordained online and performed the ceremony for the couple.

And a Breakup. . .

Just because things would seem unbalanced if there wasn't a breakup thrown in the mix, apparently Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift have called it quits. According to E! Online, the don't-blink-or-you'll-miss-it relationship ended last month and both parties are apparently quite happy. However, don't forget who Taylor Swift is: the Queen of documenting her celebrity breakups. We'll see how smooth this split really was when her next album comes down the pipeline.

Gary Collins Arrested

The longtime actor who at one time hosted the Miss America Pageant and appeared in such shows as "Perry Mason," "Hawaii Five-O," "Friends" and "JAG" was arrested on Tuesday for not paying his bill at a local Italian eatery in Biloxi, Miss. He spent the night in jail and was released on $5,000 bail. Collins has had his fair share of run-ins with the law as of late.

According to E! Online, in October, he allegedly fled the scene of a three-car pileup he was involved in, missed a progress report hearing in his 2007 DUI case in November, which lead to a $100,000 arrest warrant.

Here's hoping Collins can get his head on straight pretty soon.

"Stuck in the Middle" Singer Gerry Rafferty Dies

Rafferty, the lead singer of Stealers Wheel, passed away on Tuesday after a long battle with illness at age 63. Best known for the catchy tune "Stuck in the Middle," Rafferty's other classic pieces include "Baker Street" and "Get It Right Next Time."

In memoriam, I decided to take a moment to listen to "Stuck in the Middle" and consequently, it will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Therefore, I'm passing the favor on to you. Listen to the song here.
