Sheryl Crow has been a rock music chart mainstay since the mid-1990s. From her first smash single "All I Want to Do" through the latter part of the decade, Sheryl Crow's place as one of the more relatable female rockers in modern music was established and re-established many times over. When the new millennium dawned, songs such as the smash hit "I'm Gonna Soak Up the Sun" and subsequent singles from Sheryl's album C'Mon, C'Mon seemed destined to make the singer an even more successful artist in her second decade on the national music scene.

However, in 2006, Sheryl Crow had a year that could have altered her trajectory. During the first part of 2006 Sheryl Crow and her fiancé Lance Armstrong split up. Immediately afterwards Crow had a minimally invasive breast cancer surgery. The surgery and subsequent treatment was later revealed as a lumpectomy followed by six and one-half weeks of radiation treatments.

Sheryl Crow has remained cancer free since her initial treatment ended and has continued living a full life. In 2007, Sheryl adopted a baby boy and in 2010 she adopted a second infant son. 2010 also saw the release of a new studio album from Crow, 100 miles from Memphis, a tribute to the distance between the singer's current home near Nashville and the legendary home of musical legends such as Elvis Presley and the famed Sun Records Studio.

The years since Crow's cancer treatment have been peppered with more than the happiness of new motherhood and career resurgence though. Sheryl Crow has also devoted a lot of time, energy and funds to breast cancer causes, some instances of which occurred prior to her surgery. Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge and Rod Stewart and many other artists participated in the Designer Gibson Guitar Auction at the Hard Rock Café on May 3, 2005. Post-cancer in 2007, Crow appeared at the Revlon Run/Walk for breast cancer research.

Most recently, Crow's name has appeared alongside breast cancer in a highly substantial way. April of 2010 saw Sheryl Crow open a breast cancer detection facility as part of the Pink Lotus Breast Center network of comprehensive, state of the art cancer centers. Pink Lotus offers prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in their facilities. The new Sheryl Crow Imaging Centers feature the latest advancements in digital screening and diagnostic imaging technologies.

With these new cancer centers, Sheryl Crow is at her most involved with breast cancer research. She has progressed from smaller charity functions to becoming a full-fledged breast cancer activist since her diagnosis. Because of her deep personal connection to breast cancer, it is likely Crow will be a lifelong supporter of cancer related causes, particularly breast cancer charities.
