For thousands of years traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used to overcome health issues and promote wellness. Shiatsu is a Japanese acupressure modality steeped in the tradition of TCM. It is a treatment given on a futon on the floor. The receiver is fully clothed and there are no oils involved. A series of rocking, pressure, stretching and massage techniques may be used depending on the receivers intake using TCM diagnostic procedures.
Working with the 12 meridians of the body and using gentle acupressure techniques can help unblock and move energy within the body. This energy can become stagnate, blocked or be too concentrated within one area of the body. The 12 meridians rule your organs, emotions and physical stamina. When they are blocked or out of synch they can cause emotional and physical manifestations. Real tangible problems that can make you unwell. This is also true for fertility and reproductive issues as well. Shiatsu can have profound effects on both the female and male reproductive systems.
One of the most common problems seen by shiatsu therapists is the lack of circulation in the pelvic area. Shiatsu can help get the energy (As well as the blood) moving in this region making the ovaries and uterus in turn healthier and better functioning. Stress can also a big inhibitor. Studies have shown that stress can have a real and long lasting effect on the autonomic nervous system. This system actually controls the uterus and the fallopian tubes. So stress can wreak havoc on fertility. Shiatsu can help reduce this stress and keep your body and its organ systems in check.
Using shiatsu may not make you more fertile per say but it can help bring the body into a state of balance optimizing your chances of conception. Along with your shiatsu treatment your practitioner may also advise you to use traditional Chinese herbalism to complement the therapy. These two things combined have proven vital for many mothers having trouble conceiving or carrying a pregnancy to term. Shiatsu itself can play a vital role in reproductive health.
You should be sure to disclose any medication and health problems you may have to your practitioner before your treatment. Shiatsu should not be used in place of medical treatment but as a complimentary therapy.
