Shimon's Israeli Restaurant on Main Street in Queens, NY

Shimon's restaurant on Main Street in Queens, NY is in a quiet little area of the borough of Queens. The food is Americanized Israeli food and the restaurant is divided into two sections: falafel and pizza.

The falafel section of the restaurant is Shimon's bread and butter earnings. The falafels are really good and the restaurant gives you the option of eating a whole or half, depending on how hungry you are. Each whole falafel is $4 and a half is $2. The falafel's are very good and come with tahini sauce and are topped with an Israeli salad. You can also ask for humus dressing to be put onto the falafel and in the pita bread.

The second section of Shimon's serves Italian food including pizza. Now I know it might seem strange for an Israeli restaurant to be serving pizza and Italian food but it has worked very well for this popular restaurant. The pizza and pasta section contains your normal New York pizza which is triangular in shape and topped with mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce. The pasta dishes include spaghetti, baked ziti, stuffed shells and several other pasta dishes.

The food is ordered at the counter which is also the same area where you pay for your food. There are no waiters or waitresses. The food comes out almost instantaneously and tastes great. Shimon's is a great restaurant to eat at if you love Israeli cooking and if you are in a hurry or don't want to stay and eat a big meal. Prices for Italian food are very reasonable, ranging from $6 to $10 at most. Depending on how busy the restaurant is at any given moment, the food will be brought out to you at your table from someone working behind the counter.

Parking is also very accommodating. While Shimon's lacks a parking lot or valet parking, the restaurant is located near plenty of street parking and side streets so that you can park fairly close to the restaurant.

One of my favorite things about Shimon's is that it is also family friendly. You will often see families with young children or babies eating at Shimon's and the atmosphere are almost always filled with noise. If you are looking for a romantic night out, you probably are in the wrong place.

Shimon's is located in a very Jewish neighborhood that observes the Sabbath. Therefore the restaurant is closed on Friday nights and doesn't open until late on Saturday nights. On Jewish holidays the restaurant is also closed.
