Seattle, Washington is known as the coffee capitol of the United States, due to the fact that Starbucks and Tully's is based out of Seattle. In any given location, you will be able to find a Starbucks, or a Tully's within eye sight.

Not all people like the taste of coffee and prefer something a bit milder. Tea is a great alternative to coffee due to the beneficial antioxidants and soothing properties. There are not that many places that focus strictly on tea, however, there is a great place called Shinka Tea that patrons should try if they want a "tea fix".

Shinka Tea is located in Capitol Hill and the University District and is the best place to drink tea in Seattle, Washington. They offer an abundant assortment of loose leaf teas that are all displayed at the front of the store on an extensive menu. Asian tea is the loose leaf tea emphasis and the oolong tea leaf is especially used for many of Shinka's bubble tea. Other favorite tea leaves are the Indian estate teas and the Japanese gyokuro. Besides the exotic teas, this tea shop also serves lavender, chamomile and English teas. Patrons can purchase tea by the pound and the high quality selection will satisfy even the pickiest tea connoisseur.

Bubble tea is a popular Taiwanese style milk tea that utilizes fresh tea derived from the oolong tea leaf, milk and sweetener. The bubbles come in the form of small tapioca balls that are chewy and soft in texture. The tapioca balls are an optional component for the bubble tea, but should be tried for the more adventurous type. Fruit smoothies, sake and tea smoothies are also offered. Espresso drinks are also served for those who absolutely need their coffee fix.

People who are hungry can try the assortment of "dim-sum style" treats. Shinka currently offers an assortment of steamed buns, sticky rice and tea eggs.

The interior is very spacious and has an abundant amount of tables and chairs for people who want to sit and chat for a few hours. The hours of business are 11 am - 10:30 pm, Monday through Sunday.
