Shippea Hill Tube Station

Mr. Chip's
When I look back at my life so long ago
it doesn't seem so long but it is
when I was a young kid riding
my bike down that long British
road outside of Mildenhall.

The road that lead to Shippea Hill,
the road where Ely and Ipswich
became part of my vocabulary.

I see the "tube" pulling up to the station
and me putting my ten-speed on, a
couple of "quid" for the fare and then
off we went to Cambridgeshire.

We'd pull in to Cambridge I'd get my
bike and join the always busy streets
passing people with a blur.

Past the round-abouts and in
between the trucks and buses,
the bobbies.

Then I'd go "punting" in the Thames
or have some real fish & chips at a "T"
bar.

Perhaps I can still step in the river twice
even if the river is only in my memory.
