Considering the type of book for shipment to Hawaii
The type of book the Hawaii customer purchases will help decide which mailing service will meet mailing needs. Did your book customer purchase a magazine, comic book, thin paperback or hardcover book? The type of book purchase is an important factor when deciding the shipping method due to its overall shape and weight. Comic books, magazine and lightweight paper backs 13 ounces or less can be mailed in a flat envelope. The United States Postal Service's first-class rate runs at minimum of .80 and maximum of 2.84. Heavy or bulky books will have to be mailed by other shipping guidelines.
Communications between the book seller and Hawaii customer
Proper communications between the book seller and Hawaii customer is highly recommended. Understanding the customer's expectation of shipment arrival is important. This communication is important as the customer understanding the price of shipping and handling. After shipping agreements have been made there are three retail shipping methods provided by USPS to choose from.
Express Mail is the most efficient method. This method would work best if the book customer is in need of the book shipment quickly. Depending on the weight and location the rate will be calculated. This can be the most expensive method, but useful to the Hawaiian resident that wants the book shipment promptly. This is guaranteed next-day and second-day delivery nationwide.
Priority Mail is another quick method of receiving book shipments to Hawaii. This shipping method is less expensive than Express Mail. This is a good option for Hawaii book customers that want their books quickly and at descent rate. Shipments usually arrive within 6-8 days.
Media Mail is the least speedy method for book shipment delivery, but the price is the least expensive. Hawaii customers often wait up to two weeks for their book shipments to arrive. This is a great option for Hawaii book customers that are not in a hurry to receive shipment.
One more popular USPS shipping method is to ship by a Flat Rate Envelope or Flat Rate Box. These Flat Rate packages are sent Priority. Shipping charges are 4.60 for Flat Rate Envelopes. Flat Rate Boxes are 8.95.
Labeling the Hawaii Book Shipment Package
Another important step for shipping books to Hawaii is the labeling. Book sellers need to pay close attention to the shipping address. Clear visibility of the address helps to get the book shipment in the quickest route possible. Sellers: be cautious and write legibly or type out the Hawaii address for labeling.
Packaging the book for shipment to Hawaii
Since the book travels a distance it has a higher chance of becoming damaged. I suggest shipping the book in a bubble wrap envelope or covering the book in bubble wrap prior to stuffing the envelope or box. This will help prevent damage to the corners or shape of the book. Further, it will help prevent the book from shifting within the envelope or box. This shifting often leads to shipment damage. In some cases the packaging is ripped or with holes when shipment is received. I have had my address rewritten by the postal service on a few occasions when they noted the address was in danger of wearing off the package. In addition, I have received torn packages that were taped back togeather by the postal service. These types of damages can further delay book shipments to Hawaii.
As a Hawaii resident I am always thrilled to find book sellers that will ship to Hawaii. I hope that this information can help guide book sellers through a positive experience when selling and shipping books to Hawaii.

Post a CommentGreat advice, also if the media item weighs 6 oz or under you can send it regular first class, and they will get it faster than media mail, and it will cost less than flat rate or priority it will take a tiny bit longer, but not too much. A 6 oz package costs $2.15 for a first class mailing, and even less if it is less than 9 inches long, and under 1/4 of inch, packages under 6 oz are even cheaper to send first classe. $2.15 is just 2 cents higher than media mail. But unfortunately the price goes up after and becomes more expensive than media mail over 7 oz.
