Scene 1: "On the Beach"
(Wreckage strewn about. Dad, boys, and others are sorting through junk. Mom has just put a banana on a pile of potatoes off to the side, and walks over to the others. As they are talking, Kamook comes out from behind the trees, and Gorilla takes the banana. They go back behind the trees to watch, as Gorilla eats the banana.)
Dad: "So, is everyone okay? That was a huge storm, and it looks like there's not much left of our ship. But, at least we are all safe, thank the Lord."
Jimmy: "I'm fine, just starving."
Timmy: "Me too, dad!"
Mom: "Well, I found a banana and put it over there with the potatoes. Now, don't argue, boys, but share it!"
(Boys run for the banana, but stop short when it's not there.)
Jimmy: "Mom! I don't see any banana!"
Timmy: "Yeah, there's just... potatoes."
(Everyone goes over to ponder the missing banana, while Kamook and Gorilla creep around to look at their pile of stuff. Spotting a shiny pot, Kamook decides to use it for a helmet. They run back into the trees, still unnoticed.)
Mom: "Well, at least we saved a pot. I can make mashed potatoes for dinner, and-"
Dad: (Looking at the pile of junk.) "What pot, dear? We don't have a pot. We don't have a banana. Maybe you've got a little too much sun, here. Why don't you sit down in the shade and relax?"
Jimmy: "What about coconuts? There's gotta be some in these palm trees."
Timmy: "Yeah! We'd just need a drill or something."
Dad: "Well, let's go check the wreckage..."
Mom: "Ahh! Th- there's something, or... s- someone in the jungle! I saw the leaves move, and-"
Dad: "Now honey, it's just the wind. Really, why don't you lie down?"
Mom: (Settles down, but looks around suspiciously.) "Ahhhh! I saw it again!" (Jumps up.) "Glowing eyes!"
Jimmy: "Mom, you're probably just tired..." (Trails off, as Kamook and Gorilla come out of jungle.)
Dad: "Dear! Come here quick! They could be dangerous!"
Timmy: "But dad... he's wearing a pot for a hat. How dangerous do you think a guy like that could be?"
Jimmy: "Cool! A gorilla!"
Kamook: "Hi. Me Kamook? Who you?"
Mom: "Uh, Dear, I think he's trying to communicate with us..."
Dad: (Loud and slow, miming.) "Hello. My name is Marcus. Our ship broke, in the storm. Can you help us fix it? We need supplies."
Kamook: "Yes! We help. You want 2x4's?"
Timmy: "Yeah! Hey, are you a carpenter? A shipwright?"
Kamook: "Yes, build new ship, right?"
Dad: "Are you saying, you have wood? Or you know where some is?"
Kamook: "Ya, sure. Wood, tools, food. You follow me."
Scene 2: "At the Cave"
(Cave with building materials nicely piled, food supplies, etc. A treasure chest and mounds of treasure are tucked away in the back. Parents and others don't see the chest, only the boys do, and they run to it.)
Kamook: "See, I tell you. All you want, here."
Mom: "Wow, honey, this is amazing! Look at all of this stuff!"
Dad: "Yeah, this is perfect. Who do you suppose owns it? I wonder if we can work out some sort of a deal. We might not even need to rebuild our own ship, after all."
(Boys are stuffing treasure in their pockets, while adults talk, and suddenly Gorilla comes in, agitated.)
Kamook: "Ah! Gorilla say they come! Find us here, bad, we go!"
(They flee the cave, but the boys are dropping a trail of treasure as they go. After they are gone, group of "pirates" enters, lugging more treasure.)
Captain: "Good work, women! We scored a lot of treasure today. Arrr!"
All: (raising swords) "Arrrr!"
Pirate 2: "Yeah, Captain. After that freak storm last night, I was afraid the treasure would have been wiped away before we got there, and those treasure maps wouldn't be any use after all."
Captain: "Sure. But, those maps, passed down in my family for generations, haven't failed us yet!"
Pirate 1: (Has been unloading the new treasure in the back.) "Captain! Something's two apples short of a bushel, here! We're missing the treasure from the legendary sunken vessel of the Great Pirate Blackeye!"
Pirate 2: "Blimey, Captain! We just left last night. Must be some thieves around these here parts."
Captain: "Only one thing to do! Let's scour this island, and find those theives!"
Pirate 1: (Spots the dropped treasure trail.) "Captain, look! A trail! Let's follow it!"
(They follow the trail, heads bowed, as the boys realize they have been dropping treasure and back track, heads also down; all suddenly collide. Gorilla sees it, and races back to other group, while "pirates" take boys captive and tie them up in the cave.)
Scene 3: "Back at the Beach"
(They are all catching there breath, when Gorilla runs up, gesticulating wildly. People look at her confused, until
mom looks around and realized boys are gone.)
Mom: "Timmy? Jimmy? Boys! Where are you?"
Dad: "Boys? Boys!"
Kamook: "This bad. Gorilla say they captured."
Dad: "By whom? Who are those people, anyway?"
Kamook: "I no know. I never talk to them, just listen. They look bad, though."
Mom: "Dear, what if... what if they're pirates! And they have our little babies!"
Dad: "Those scoundrels! Rogues! Think they can just kidnap our sons and get away with it? Not on this island! Let's go!"
Mom: "Oh, do be careful, darling!"
Dad: "Come now, dear, we can't very well leave you alone on the beach. You'll have to come with us!"
Kamook: "Yes, too dangerous, be alone. Snakes, you know."
Dad: "Okay, here's the plan. Sneak back through the island, and get them with a surprise attack! Let's go!"
Scene 4: "
Back at the Cave"
(Boys are tied up, and "pirates" are around them in a circle.)
Captain: "And that's why we still wear these clothes, even though we're not pirates any longer. Enough about us, though. I want to know what you two think you're doing, stealing our treasure!"
Timmy: "But, look, we-"
(He's interrupted, as the "pirates" are ambushed by the shipwrecked, Kamook and the Gorilla. Big fight ensues, and the boys are calling out "Wait, stop! You've got it all wrong!", while the dad is calling stuff like "Kidnap my boys, will you?" and the Captain "Think you thieves can steal my treasure, do you? Arr!", etc. Boys manage to struggle free, and just as Dad and Captain are engaged in a showdown, they jump in the middle, stopping the fight.)
Jimmy: "STOP! Please! You don't understand! Dad, they're not really pirates!"
Timmy: "Captain, my parents aren't thieves!"
Mom: "What do you mean, they're not pirates, Jimmy? They have mounds of treasure! They wear pirate clothes! They talk like pirates! They kidnapped you!"
Jimmy: "Maybe all that's true, but you can't judge just by how they act! They told us their story while we were tied up. The truth is, they only USED to be pirates! But then they realized that all they were doing was living selfishly, hurting other people just to get gold and jewels. They decided to stop stealing. But there are tons of ships that crash around here during storms, so they go to see if there are any survivors! Also, they collect treasure from really oooold shipwrecks to save up and send to their families, or other people that need it!"
Dad: "But, that's preposterous! Pirates who give up their treasure?"
Pirate 1: "It's like he said! We used to be pirates, but we gave that up! Had a change of heart, you might say."
Pirate 2: "Yep. That's all true. Now we just want to help other people."
Mom: "Really? Oh, my... dear, we've made a terrible mistake!"
Dad: "Wait just a minute, now. If you're not pirates, then why have you kidnapped our children?"
Captain: "Kidnapped? We don't kidnap! We only caught thieves, that's what! And you've got nerve, calling us pirates when you're thieves!"
Mom: "Thieves? But we didn't take anything!"
Timmy: "Actually... mom, dad, we're really sorry. But we did take stuff. Jimmy and I... we saw the gold and thought how great it would be, how much cool stuff we could buy... we took some. We took a lot. And we dropped it when we were running away. But we were so selfish, and wanted the gold so much, we went back to try to pick it all up. That's when we were caught. We know you taught us better. We know it was wrong. We're sorry."
Jimmy: "Really sorry. All of this is our fault."
Dad: "No, son. It's not all your fault. You're right, that what you did was wrong. But what we did, jumping to conclusions and judging people by how they look, was also wrong."
Captain: "Arrr. Sorry about that, then, calling you thieves."
Mom: "And we're sorry too, for calling you pirates."
Pirate 1: "But what about them?" (Points to Kamook and Gorilla.)
Kamook: "Me? I just live here. But... I sorry too. I afraid; you look mean, so I never talk to you. Me judge too."
Dad: "Well, good. Now that that's all cleared up, can you help us get off this island?"
Captain: "Sure thing!"
(They shake hands. The end.)
