Shiseido Accentuating Cream Eyeliner in Black: A Review

The Pen
After watching too many episodes of MTV's "The Hills" awhile back, I really began to long for some of Lauren's black eyeliner. So on a day of shopping I went to Sephora, and one of the specialists recommended that I try Shiseido's The Makeup Accentuating Cream Eyeliner in Black.

A small jar of it cost $26, a little steep, but I decided to try it anyway. The Cream Eyeliner comes in a plum and silver colored box. Inside the eyeliner comes in a beautiful jar. The lid has an uneven and organic shape, and both the lid and jar are painted in an organic swirl of metallic plum and black.

The Shiseido Accentuating Cream Eyeliner also contains a metallic plum colored portable liner brush. It's small, but it can be extended if you put the cap on the back of the brush when you're using it.

Shiseido claims that the Accentuating Cream Eyeliner "smoothly draws a long-lasting line of concentrated color to dramatically emphasize eyes." The Accentuating Eyeliner is supposed to stay smudge-free, even when exposed to water, rubbing, or even sweat.

After trying this Shiseido eyeliner, I have to say that for the most part, I was impressed with it. The black shade is a deep kohl black that's perfect for Cleopatra style lines, and I'm in love with the liner brush itself, it has a very thin and slanted tip, so it can create the thinnest lines, even ones that are finer than with pencil eyeliners.

I drew on some thin lines around each eye, and then went on about my day. I was happy to see that several hours later, that even though my face became quite shiny, that the Shiseido Accentuating Cream Eyeliner, mostly stayed put. A little bit of it had smudged slightly onto my upper eyelids causing them to look a pale gray.

The only complaint that I have about this liner is it's waxiness. It's almost has the texture of a crayon, so it's hard to get a completely even line because sometimes gaps form in the line, or an excess builds up. Each line needs to be smooth and even in order for it to really adhere to the skin and be budge-proof.

So I'm not sure if it's the cream eyeliner itself, or maybe it's my fault. I probably need to clean my brush and learn how to dip it into the pot better, so that my lines can be smoother.

In the End...

I think the Shiseido Accentuating Cream Eyeliner is a really good product. It's really easy to apply because of the brush and once you get smooth even layers on, it doesn't smudge much. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
