Shoal Creek Living History Museum is Having a Harvest Festival

There Will Be a Lot to Feast Your Eyes On

Lee Hansen

For the past few weeks the weather in Kansas City has been absolutely gorgeous. It's the kind where you wish you could bottle up and keep on reserve for when those long and weary wintry days are certain to assault us.

But until such time, residents and visitors alike have yet another opportunity to enjoy an autumn outing.

WHAT: An Old Fashioned Country Fair Style Festival

WHEN: Saturday, October 8, 2011

LOCATION: Hodge Park on Hwy 152 - 2 miles west of Liberty, MO

TIME: 10 - 4:30 p.m.

ADMISSION: $5.00 per person; Children 5 and under are free

PHONE: 816-792-2655

And What Can You Expect To See?

Well there's a magician, storytelling, all kinds of games, Buffalo Chip Throwing contest, and covered wagon rides (Breathe)! And then there's a pumpkin patch, sack races, traditional music of the 19th century by the Bluegrass Brigade. The Piccadilly Puppets will be performing as well as the Antioch Middle School Fiddlers. They'll also be demonstrations by Period Interpreters. Now if you're the cooking type, you are encouraged to bring your baked cookies, jellies and pickles for judging. Did I mention that the Campfire Girls USA will be operating the games?

Events like this just don't happen. This one is no exception. This is a collaboration of the Shoal Creek Association and the Kansas City Parks, Recreation and Boulevards. Financial assistance has been provided by The Neighborhood, Tourism, and Development Fund.

So if you have a hankering for those good ole days, come on down. It certainly will be a fun-filled family day. It's things like this that keep are communities close and strong.
