Deirdre Coleman Imus, the wife of former shock jock Don Imus stepped up to the microphone this morning to speak out for her husband.

"We met with the beautiful young women and the coach and head of Rutgers University and athletic director for hours which was a very the important thing," she said. "We gave opportunity to listen to what they had to say about how hurt they were and how horrible this is, those women are courageous and beautiful."

Deirdre Imus wants all hate mail sent to her husband. "Let the heckling of these team members stop. Sending it to these girls is not the right thing to do"

The head coach of the Rutgers women's basketball team has not said if the team has forgiven Imus for his remarks.

Don's radio show was ended on Thursday after being on the air for 30 years as the result of his comment last week that the Rutgers women's basketball team were "nappy headed ho's." The show was pulled that day by CBS President Les Moonves saying, "There have been too many discussions on how language such as this effects people especially our young people and particularly young women of color that are trying to get ahead in society."

The pulling of Don's radio show has sent shock waves throughout the nation and sparked many discussions with everyone taking sides. Rutgers player Essence Carson said, "I know we are young, but we definitely know what is right and what is wrong and what should be done."

The Reverend Al Sharpton and Senator Barack Obama, D-Ill., had both insisted on Don's firing. Last Thursday, Reverend Sharpton led a protest in front of CBS Radio's New York headquarters demanding Don's firing.

Senator John McCain, R-Arizona had a different opinion, stating that Don's apology on air was enough. "He offered a deep felt apology," "I am a great believer in redemption," McCain said.

Radio shock jock Howard Stern said, "If there is a blacken core to a human being, it is Imus." Stern has been a longtime nemesis of Don's

Radio host Larry Elder who has a conservative radio show, gave speculation saying that Imus would come back to radio eventually.

Imus retorted Thursday, the last day of his show, "They got me, but they did not catch me asleep."
