Shocking Displays -- 4 Super Bogus Moments in Reality TV

Controversial Moves and Gratuitous Violence on Reality Television Shows

Em Robbins
Reality television, for the most part, is a wasteland of worthless drivel floating in a sea of bikinis and booze. When reality TV drama strikes, some of it is warranted, while other moments in reality television make the stars seem to have lost their marbles. Here are four awesomely controversial moments on reality TV that were dastardly, unfair, or totally bogus moves by reality stars or the hosts of the show.

Snooki Gets Straight Sucker Punched by a Man on "Jersey Shore"

There's not much to this one. On the breakout hit "Jersey Shore," Snooki, also known as Nicole Polizzi, was punched in the face by a muscled gym teacher from Queens.

Though Snooki was no doubt giving him a verbal beating, the violence was completely uncalled for. It is highly disturbing to see violence perpetrated against a woman, and doubly so when the woman was not being physically aggressive with the man.

Blonde Rachel Gets Prematurely Eliminated on "America's Most Smartest Model"

In Episode 6 of "America's Most Smartest Model," a reality show competition that judged a model's looks as well as brains, Blonde Rachel, also known as Rachel Myers of Palm Springs, California, was eliminated prior to the final elimination ceremony in a decision made by those heading up the show. A lot of people watching this show felt this move was bogus and that Blonde Rachel deserved a chance at the elimination lineup.

Though the producers later stated that the early elimination was meant to add some drama to the show, it cast a serious shadow of doubt on any remaining legitimacy in the competition, which may have contributed to the demise of the show and lack of continued fame for the show's winner, whoever that was.

Danny Bonaduce Drops Jonny Fairplay on His Face at the "2008 Reality Awards"

Jonny Fairplay, also known as Jon Dalton, lied about his grandmother's death on the show "Survivor: Pearl Islands," and has been a bit of a reality show pariah since. For his crimes, he received some comeuppance in the form of a face-breaking landing at the hands of Danny Bonaduce.

When the award show crowd booed Fairplay, a wasted-looking Bonaduce leaned into the microphone and said, "They're booing because they hate you."

Fairplay then jumped into an unwilling Bonaduce's arms and performed a comedic sort of humping motion, after which Bonaduce lifted Fairplay over his head and sort of threw him. Fairplay landed on his face. Fairplay reportedly suffered injuries and broken teeth as a result of the incident. Though this incident is more violent and bogus than the following incident, Fairplay's past behavior makes Bonaduce's behavior more shocking and sad than bogus.

And the most bogus reality TV moment of all:

Megan Hauserman Attacked by Sharon Osbourne on "Charm School"

Breathtaking bikini model Megan Hauserman, who made her early reality show moments known on "Beauty and the Geek" and "Rock of Love" with Vince Neil, was attacked on-camera by Sharon Osbourne after making comments about the Osbourne family that Osbourne found distasteful.

Though video of the incident is obscured by the many people attempting to stop the bout, Osbourne doused Hauserman with a cup of what is reportedly juice before getting physical with Hauserman, who was seated on a couch. Both Osbourne and Hauserman have filed lawsuits as a result of the incident.

When it comes to controversial moments on reality TV, sometimes it can be more about whether the person deserved the attack than how brutal the attack was. It can often be surprising how reality shows can affect the behavior of the stars of the shows and the celebrities that host them, even when they know they are in front of the camera.
