Shoes with Style: 2010 Trends

Erin Duff
One of my favorite things about spring is the fact that I get to wear open-toed shoes and sandals after the cold winter months. Sure, I've attempted to wear open-toed shoes in the snow, but sometimes it's just not worth it! Spring 2010 trends are not too different from typical spring shoes in the past few years, but some notable finds are all available at Zappos.com. This makes it easier for you to find and order the shoes you like.

One very popular trend for 2010 are shoes with a very high heel. Your typical pumps might go as high as 2-3 inches, but these pumps can be up to 6 inches, if not higher. Is this practical for everyday wear? No, unless you plan on breaking your ankles, but if you're brave, some of these heels might work well for a night on the town. The following recommendations are pumps of both styles (varied heel heights) that are what I like best.

Calvin Klein Cora-These platform peep-toe pumps are the perfect basic black shoe, and although the heel is 4 inches high, they can still be worn to work or out to dinner. They are available in seven other colors as well, and all are easily worn with both pants and skirts. These only cost $97.95, which is a good deal for shoes that are made well and will likely last you for a few seasons, depending on the care you take of the heel.

Badgley Mischka Elia-Yet another take on the basic black pump, these have rhinestones at the toe, which is also cut a bit differently than the average peep-toe shoe. Another common trend for 2010 is mixing simple colors with something bold, and these shoes will allow you to do so. They are priced at $204, which is typical of a high-end name in fashion.

Betsey Johnson Athena-If you're looking for a bolder print, consider these animal-print styled Betsey Johnson shoes, which allow for a bold print to be paired with a muted outfit in order to add style to your everyday outfit. These would be worn well with pants or skirts, but likely those that are in basic colors in order to bring attention to the shoe. They are sold for $154. If you would prefer a print that isn't quite as bold, Betsey Johnson also carries a shoe called Lakin, which allows you to have a muted print style These are priced at $154 as well.

Another trend for 2010 is a carryover from last year, the sandal/pump that is popular on the runways. You can find these shoes in many different colors and styles, but the following are shoes you could wear to work or during the evening. These are best paired with skirts, as a cropped pant will make your legs appear shorter, and pants will obviously hide the shoes you want to show off.

Diane Von Furstenberg Alexandria-These shoes are a bit pricey at $429, but appear to be sturdy and easily worn. The heel isn't too high, and the style is one that is popular in 2010. They are available in black and brown, and would keep you cool during the warm spring days as they have cutout patterned detailing. These shoes are best for those who would like to attempt something different, but do not want to go too wild.

L.A.M.B Vail-These shoes are similar to the DVF Alexandria, but have additional embellishments and a higher heel by approximately 1 1/2 inches. They are slip-on peep-toe shoes and the heels are gold-plated, so they are a more daring take on this popular style. They cost $303.

CARLOS by Carlos Santana Petaldo-These shoes are certainly extreme, but are a very fashionable shoe for 2010. They only cost $68.95, and will make a statement when you are out for the evening. These shoes closely resemble the shoes featured on the runways for the spring 2010 fashion shows, and will allow you to buy into the trend without spending too much money if you don't like the style or fit of the shoe.

If you would prefer to spend more money and/or buy shoes that are more daring and bold, check out Coutorture's list of 100 Favorite Shoes for Spring 2010. The list consists of mostly designer shoes featured on the runway shows, but allow you to search for shoes that are trendy and part of the 2010 look. Enjoy your shopping!
