If you're taking advantage of the after Christmas, after New Year's sales and markdowns, think about hitting up some jewelry counters and stocking up on a few trendy pieces with actual staying power. True, some of 2008's fashion trends we're not too sad to see go. For instance, the ubiquitous open-toed shoe bootie. We liked it on the runway, but on real people it's underwhelmed the heck out of us. (Have you met anyone who these things look good on?) But where jewelry is concerned, several of 2008's trends will look great well into 2009. And, thanks to non-brisk holiday sales numbers, many of them can be had for a steal-we found some for $3! Here, our list of five jewelry pieces to buy now-and love all 2009 long.

Caution: These deals are here today, gone tomorrow. But if you find a piece is sold out, keep hunting. Similar trends are available at other retailers.

#1: Natural Necklace

Organic, earthy materials were huge last year, which had us layering on lovelies made of bone, wood and shell in colors like wheat, caramel and taupe. Though some of the more outlandish outgrowths of the trend may be shelved this year (we're hanging up our feather necklace, for instance) great-looking strands of wood beads will serve you well for years to come. Grab Xhilaration's Oversized Beaded Necklace for only $3.24. It features five wooden beads, suspended from a gold-toned chain, and measures 18".

Why We Love It: It's a great new neutral to sub in for a chunky gold chain or pearls.

How It Works Best: Layered with other necklaces of like materials and varied lengths.

Who's Been Wearing It:Linsey Lohan and the girls of "The Hills" have sported the natural bead look; but we say wear it anyway...

What This One Costs:$3.24!
