Shopping Carts

The Land of Mediocrity

Rose Shababy
Pushing the shopping cart, filling it with

milk and

eggs and

mayonnaise and

ground up flesh of stupid beasts, and

there are millions just like me, and

everyone is filling up with this

life, and

my mind sees and cries from this

banality

continuity

monotony

and

I am screaming .... "Am I drowning?"...

(on the inside)

I am withering ... "Am I dying?"...

(on the inside)

I am growing older ..."This shit isn't me!"...

(on the inside)

I drive to work like all the other drones

Fords and

buses and

bicyclists and

start to lose sight of dreams that belong to only me, and

I wonder how many watch life slip by too, and

are terrified of a lifetime filled with this

like me, and

I force myself inside this box

responsibility

reliability

dependability

but

I will still create ..."I won't give up!"...

(on the inside)

I will still imagine ..."I will not be provincial!"...

(on the inside)

I will still hope ..."Fuck your mediocrity!"...

(on the inside)
